So, tell me what you think. I go to the closest Red Wing store today. 1 1/2 hours away. I called first to make sure they would have a nice selection of 12 EE in stock, " Oh yeah the guy said, come on down ". So. I get there with my wife in tow, and guess what ??? Not ONE 12 EE in the store. WTH I say, and the guy shrugs his shoulders and tells me he can order them. No thanks. I go to the next Red Wing store 30 miles away, but not any farther from home on the return trip. I get an 85 year old man to help me, as his son is gone. He knows nothing, and can't understand what I want due to hearing issues. So, I start looking through the selection, and find everything is made in China, YEP, China. *** I think and walk out cause by now my wife is worried I'm gonna get tazed if I don't leave soon. So, 4 hours wasted, no boots, and come to the conclusion Red Wings are going the way of every other boot, ie. cheap... and lousy customer service. Anyway, somebody please give me a boot made in America. And, no, I don't care what they cost. Thanks

I think some Carolina's are US made. Then there's Whites & Hathorn (handmade in WA-OR?). I was just reading on another forum about Keen boots. They were praised but I don't remember a mention of their country of origin. I believe that there are a few other small American (built) logging & smoke jumper type folks out there as well.

The EPA shut down all the Tanneries in the USA... too much chrome. (heavy metal).

I wore Red Wings for 20 years. When the boots got to $300 and were no longer comfortable I gave up on them the second time around.

Google work boot made in the USA and you will get a lot of boots made here.

Some are good and some are not.

Good luck ;)

The high end Red Wings are made here. Close to where I live actually. They start at about 300$. I looked pretty hard at them recently, and decided if I was gonna pay that much I'd might as well go for White's, Nick's, or Wescos. They cost more but are as good as they get, or so I hear. Check them out.

Hmmmm! So I check MY Redwings - yep, made in China. I have another custom made boot - made just for me riding my Harley. A fantastic fit because you have to draw out your foot on paper and send them all your measurements - except your jock strap.
www.russelmoccasin.com They do make work boots, they are expensive, they are made in Berlin, WI and they can take a while to get since every pair is hand made. My Russels were $325 eight years ago. If you take care of them they will last a lifetime and they can be totally rebuilt, if needed. Mine are eight years old and look as good as the day I got them and the soles being a Vibrum lug will last forever.

I take it the 'made just for me boot' thing is an ego thing. Of course the intrinsic parts of your Harley were made offshore so what diff do the boots make?

Gotta hear this.....

Not sure were they were made but I still have a pair of Asolo waterproof hikers I bought to teach motorcycle classes when I first started teaching in late 1997. They look like heck as I wore them to teach every motorcycle class from the day I bought them until I quit teaching in 2006. I also wore them every time I rode my motorcycles, every time I needed boots... I did not stop wearing them on a daily basis until 2008 or 2009... Sadly nothing I've bought since even comes close... NOw they sit outside the basement door and I slip them on to go out to the chicken coop, before this I used them for mowing (they developed a single leak spot on the area where the sole was glued on. I ought them for like $185 in 1997 and I thought that was a fortune...

My current hunting boots are Columbia sportswear and I bought them in 2007 0r 2008 I think. They are warm and dry (they are like duck boots and the lowers are rubber) and great for snow & hunting in the wet).

I still have the Mountblanc Thinsulate leather "logger" style hunting boots I bought after I got out of the Navy so they are from 1986 or 1987, they are looking tired and worn but are still waterproof and warm (I wear them when working the snow on my tractor or when chainsawing... I just checked and they say made in Korea. I will say the MountBlanc's sat in storage for at least 5 years while I was in California...

I would like a steel toed option for chain-sawing and working outside so I am interested in what this thread reveals...

Be well,
David

Not all redwings are made in china. Some are , you have to look inside. I buy USA made redwings and paid about 160.00-180.00 per pr, as I buy steel toe boots. I have a pr of Keens . Keens are made in .. you guessed it China. Anymore,,,It's hard to find shoes made here and I'm afraid, it's gonna get worse B-4 it gets better
