What companies are best known for quality? I bought a Kaufman and it's junk so moving on to a quality product but need advice.

Looking for a 14K 20' equipment hauler tag along.

Thank you

Interesting. Maybe a late model Kaufman is junk, but my 15 year old tanden axle deck over gooseneck is a tank. I overload it all the time with 4x5 rounds, heavy ag tractors, wood pellets, you name it. Never had issue one. In fact, last year I loaded 26 4x6 dense packed, net wrapped rounds on it (about 30,000 pounds worth) and while I didn't go too far (from the field to the barn) it never sagged, never complained. The tires got warm, and the brakes were iffy, thats it. My 350 diesel Ford barked a bit.

I did have one issue when I bought it, I had to weld gusset plates to the ends of the subframe that locates the axles. I was actually twisting the subframe in off camber turns in the field. Once I welded on the triangular gussets, no more issues.

I have to replace the oak deck this year, it's about shot (to be expected as it stays outside all year) and it needs sandblasted and a coat of enamel but structually, it's ****.

If my old one is indicative of what they build, I'd buy another in a minure. Maybe you got a Monday morning szpecial.

I have a Kaufman trailer and I really like it. It pulls very nice. I would buy another one or recommend them to anyone. I think it is just as nice as other brands that cost more.

I don't put much stock in what the BBB has to say, they are a Scam. They are not a government agency like most people think. If they contact your business about becoming a member and you decline they will give you bad ratings on their website. Then when you join you get a good rating.

I've had great luck with LoadMax and LoadTrail, owned several of each and would buy again.

I have a Moritz 20+5' gooseneck. It seems well built although I have not used it all that much.

Here's some advice.....About where are you located? Just the State would do, and then the responses could be more helpful.

I'm in NC. To be honest I've used 4 or 5 different trailers and all pulled good except this Kaufman. I will never buy another from them based on just customer service alone. Looking at other trailers I like Tow Master as I have rented 2 different ones and both pulled very well. Anyone know about this company? They look very well built too.

Thanks

What it wrong with it? You say it does not pull good, what do you mean by that, does it pull hard, sway or what?

See post 13 above

I bought one at auction, formerly a sunbelt rentals, tilt low deck bumper pull.
Very heavy duty, greasable spring shackles, pulls great low center of gravity. Too narrow for some tractors. But for the purchase price plus brakes, and lights I could have bought a new pj. The jack stand is indestructible for 99% of us, however, as you lower to your ball it moves forward. So you learn to stop a few inches short to compensate when hooking up.

The reason that I asked about location is that I think trailer manufacturing is pretty much a regional thing since shipping them around the country would be so expensive. I'm not familiar with trailers in your whereabouts, but there must be some good ones nearby. You'll find one ...sure enough. There are dealers that handle name brands around the country.
Cheers,
Mike

I had no idea Kaufman had such a bad rating. Wish I would have looked into it further before spending almost 4k with them. Reviews on the BBB are horrible. My experience too and you can bet mine will be on there soon. All they want is your money.

See if you have a dealer for Redi-Haul Trailers, INC. in your area i.e. Redi Haul Trailers Home Page. In my estimation they make a very good product with good support from the factory.
Cheers,
Mike

Imperial Trailer contact form for custom built trailers

These guys are well known for quality, at least their tilt trailers are.

Trailers - Sauber Mfg. Co.

I used to work for these guys and can definitely vouch for their quality. They kinda specialize in utility company trailers (pole trailers, reel trailers, etc...) but they make a very nice deckover, though maybe heavier than you are looking for. I have no idea what they cost, but I am sure a lot. They are also very customizable, and you can get them galvanized if you want to pay.

You never went into detail on what is wrong with the trailer. If you explain maybe someone here can help.

Basically the trailer pulled horribly right from the start. Jerks and vibrates something fierce. First they said it was probably the tires as they used really cheap ones. Can you believe they actually told me that? I told them "well that's nice I would have liked the option for good ones". Called them several times but they would not take it back, trade tires nor even look at the trailer. Instead sent me to guy next door that had no idea. He didn't even work for them. The whole thing was weird and showed poor support. The tires were radials so had them balanced but no improvement. Then first blow out happened at about 1500-2000 miles (1 year old). I replaced all of them worried about it and hoping trailer would pull better. Well it did improve some and at least now it's bare-able but still sucks. So took it to a repair shop "great guy too" and he spent some time with it and agreed something was not right. Said axles were straight but still didn't pull like it should. 1 axle may have a slight amount of play in bearing but wasn't much. May replace bearing just to see. Over all very disappointed with my purchase and will not buy another from them.

Do you like the trailet other than the problem and poor support? I would try to figure out what is wrong with it, it would be cheaper than a new trailer.

Here is some stuff you can check:

Jack it up and spin the tires to see if they are out of round or have a crooked tread. Also inspect them for flat spots.

Retourque the wheels, u bolts and spring shackles to spec.
