Wearing a sleep apnea mask?

I appreciate the responses, and yep, I've been thinking that I should take it with me. Mine came with a nice carrying case that will hold everything but the bottle of distilled water.

When flying, always carry it on the plane. Since it is considered a medical device, it is not counted as a piece of carry on. TSA is familiar with the device. I just got back from a trip this past Sunday and did not encounter any difficulties getting it through security or on the plane. I always travel with it whether it is one night or ten. I always use distilled water when at home and away if I can. The only problem using tap water that I know of is scale build up from minerals in the tap water.

Haven't been around for a few years but decided to get back on forum......

You know I was diagnosed with a Sleep disorder before it was a popular diagnosis, peobably an offshoot of my Asthma...

Anyway, I've been sleeping on a machine for the last 20 years or so and I own outright, 4 machines. I run one (actually my original one) at my bedside, it has well over 25,000 hours on it and still runs just fine, with a seperate heated humidifier. I like it because I can program it myself and it's an original BIPAP breathes with you.

I get my supplies from CPAP Machines and CPAP Masks for the Treatment of Sleep Apnea, they have my scrip on file and I pay up front and then my healthcare provider reimburses me (no medicare yet, next year).

I have a second and third spare machines and my fourth machine is a portable Li-ion battery pack powered, ultra lightweigh machine designed just for backcountry hunting and backpacking where electricity is unavailable. I has a large solar panel for recharging but no humidifier. I cannot exost without a machine, every night, without fail.

I went to New Mexico two years ago for a Mulie hunbt and my luggage and firearms got sent to the wrong airport. The airline located them and forwarded them to me at theri expense, but the first night (lodge) I had no machine and about died from no sleep. I was a complete zombir the next day, never left the loge to hunt. Got my rifles and luggage the nect day and the machine and all was well. Took a mulie buck on top of a Mesa. The mount is in my trophy room upstairs.

Lesson learned, my machine now travels in my carry-on bag with my ammunition.

I had no issue getting 'used' to the mask or at least I don't remember any, that was a long, long time ago.

Almost bed time now. I'll be putting my mask on and off to la-la land in less than 5 minutes.

My wife likes it. I don't snore, weave my legs tos and turn, I sleep and dream. She also likes the fact that I don't pester her for you know what anymore, at my age and hers, a good thing I guess.

I don't believe I want to put that thing on. I ain't done pestering yet.

So do I like having sleep apnea? Nope, but I can tell you that untreated sleep apnea will result in a much sooner death than treating it.

Too true. It can be a lot sooner than most people think. Stopping breathing can be fatal. Would you believe a specialist in Australia actually said that to me? When I returned to Scotland it was explained that each "episode" puts a slight strain on the heart. We all know what that can lead to. Also, an episode whilst driving can be fatal. You would not be the first to have it happen.

My wife tried everything. Sleep study at New England Medical Center, etc. Mask was even worse.

She went to an acupuncturist four times. Problem solved. Don't ask them how it works, just pay the $50 and let them do their thing.

Teeth grinding, ditto. If you are desperate, worth a try.

Well, I have been on the CPaP for a week. Seems like I sleep pretty much all night, but I am MUCH more tired and sleepy than before. This was supposed to help but I felt so tired at work today I was having trouble concentrating. I could understand if I wasn't sleeping but that is not the case. After sleeping solid 6-7 hours I feel like I got no sleep at all.

Alan, I'm surprised at that, but don't have any answers. Last week, we made a little 6 day, 5 night, 2,941 mile trip. Even when I sleep fairly well, I always wake up and get started early in the morning. So the first night on the road in Pell City, AL, I didn't use the CPAP, but the next 3 nights in Princeton, WV, I did, then on the return trip, we stopped for the night in Benton, AR, and again I didn't use the CPAP. But I do sleep better when I use it. But I can't say I feel any better, more rested, etc. when I use it.

I have an appointment with the sleep doc 9/2. I told the tech that fitted it that I was feeling tired by she was no help.

Alan, you need to visit with a sleep doc. It does take a while to get used to slewing with the mask. I have many friends that swear by their CPAPs but, I have had mine since March of this year and have good nights where I sleep 6-7 hours without waking up but, still have nights where the mask bothers me all night long.

I just started taking a 10mg melatonin 3-4 hours before bed time with some improvement.

Good luck! We all need our sleep.
