How well do shelter logic hold up in heavy snow areas?

Thanks for the pic's, Ruffdog, I have the 12x24 round top that was on it's fifth year now.
Just installed a new tarp "on top only" and you've given me a good idea on how to install tin etc.
Here's what i did to mine, I have a similar front door like yours,
Around the door frame, (wood) I ran 2x4's by 14' feet long towards the center of the garage,
they attach to a center post ( in cement ) and the another 10 footer that goes to a shed,
this is done on both sides, across those center post's ( at 14 feet) I have 2x6's that brace these together.
In the center of that cross beam, I have a "chain block" it has come in handy many times.
This set-up gives extra strength the shelter garage.
I was considering on buying another 12x24 shelter logic and throw the new tarp "on top of the old one"
and then using the new tubes and position them along side the old ones,
making this double strong, I may still do this next year and then, "cover it with tin as you have".
By the way, my set-up is bolted on "railway ties, never has moved and we have severe heavy winds in our area.

The 12' by 10' high by 24' round top is the one I have,
Love it, It's my work shop, I'll up some pics if anyone needs to see them.
Rick

Im in Newfoundland Canada and we get a lot of snow here. I had a 12 x 16 put up when we first built the house in 2009 and it finally bit the bullet this past winter which was a particularly hard one snow wise. I wouldnt consider them a permanent solution but I got 4 winters out of mine so I figure it cost me less than 100 per year.

I got an extra year out of mine by reinforcing the ridge beam with posts but eventually there is not enough lateral support and it kind of fell over sideways instead of collapsing in the middle.

My dad has a larger round top one and his is working out exceptionally well but he isnt as sheltered as I am and therefore the snow doesnt accumulate on his the same way. In my location it was a regular job of removing snow from the thing.

The death blow comes with the spring warm temps and a big dump of wet snow that freezes overnight. that stuff is like concrete when it sets up.

If I were doing one again, Id find an area out in the open where the wind can blow it clean. Put it somewhere where you can monitor it regularly, if you cant see it and forget it for a couple of wet snow storms you may be too late. If you have to keep it in a sheltered area, leave enough room around the sides to run your blower down periodically to give the roof snow somewhere to go when you clean it off.

Here are the pictures. The little 10x10, the greenhouse hoops covered in metal with wood end walls, and the round top needing new end walls. The greenhouse hoops were too short so they are on top of buried 6x6 posts. I drilled 2" deep into the post tops for the hoops to sit into then fastened both together with angle brackets. One note, the more level and straight you get the hoops, the much easier and better results will be with the metal. Start at the top, with lots of measuring, then work down each side.

Ruffdog, how does that type of roof handle the snow?
It would seem to stay on and not slide off because of the ridges....

It handles it better than the fabric did.

THey wont do well with more than 3"s of snow on it. I had a 6" event in my area and i had to go out 2x and knock the snow off of it, cause it was sagging so bad.

So this would not be something i would put in an area that has normal snow.

buy a carport. Look up Carolina carport Inc and locate a dealer or look online for allsteelacrports.com or a similar sounding website i dont really remember the site name but its an online dealer for CCI.

I got a metal 18x21ft carport for $695+tax delivered and installed at my house. I included one side to the ground for an additonal $150.

Ruffdog,

Are the frames of the shelters you adding steel to the economy shelters? i was doing research and the garage in a box series uses 1 5/8" tubing while the shelter tech series used something like a 2 3/8" tubing.

I went to Carolina website and priced what you describe. Price for lightest guage uncertified material is $1425, for certified 130mph it's $1725. That does not include price of a slab to anchor it, or the price of ground anchors if it's not on concrete. And I have a dealer 20 miles from my house, so I don't think it could be much cheaper based on location.

I think they are the light duty frames.

It handles it better than the fabric did.

Can yo be more specific, do you still have to tap it from the inside to remove the snow.
