I use my Bose QuietComfort® 20i Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones with my iPhone. It works great.

If you have a cab and a place for a speaker, you might try Bose SoundLink® Mini Bluetooth® speaker. I use this on my boat when fishing. Of course, I don't have the motor running while using the speaker. Thinking maybe the cab might dampen the sound a bit to allow you to hear the speaker. It definitely won't work with an open tractor.

Worktunes headphones wired to my iPhone for audio books, and can receive calls and notifications.

Phone sits in my overalls chest pocket, wires tucked behind the bib. If I'm on and off more, working in brush, or cutting or splitting wood, or doing something that requires more attention to detail, I'll usually unplug from the audiobook and iphone, and just use FM stations.

The worktunes use no power while plugged into the phone, so batteries last a long time.

I tried some Sportsman's Guide cheap noise-cancelling headphones, but their NRR rating was lower, and my BX24 didn't generate enough noise to cancel out anything. The Worktunes give decent noise protection, while still allowing me to hear engine sounds, and clangs or bangs if I hit rocks, etc. without having to blast the volume.

Here I am thinking I was going to get laughed off the Site by asking this question and just a few hours later you all jump in with the same issue. Great. I Have not looked at all the links some of you sent. I will . I too have put ear protection Earmuffs OVER my little ear buds and tucked the wire in my shirt when walking behind my lawn Mower. Problem is. None of these ear buds fit my ears. Same issue when I go out for a Run. That's why I was thinking large , tight fitting Headphones.
I was in a store trying on some of those Noise cancelling Headphones. The ones that seem to really work Didn't hurt my ears but certainly would hurt my wallet. Bose $300. Ouch
Ok off to look at the Links you all sent

No, the threads for hearing protection and music need to be resurrected at times.

As I posted last year
I've been using Thunder 29's
THUNDER29MUFFS.jpg
and similar for nigh on 20 years for high noise situations. I often combine them with ear plugs such as the Milwaukee Milwaukee 49-17-3200 NRR 27 DB Corded Reusable Earplugs, Box of 50 - Amazon.com Chainsawing, lawn mowing, tractor work etc.

I realize the importance of being able to "hear" interruptions to the situation but I like to "listen to the sounds of silence".

However, I also often am doing fairly boring mind-numbing tasks, such as taking the lawn down by 2" where I see no safety reason why I couldn't listen to a little Dead or the news. In those cases I USED (20 years ago) to plug in a device called "stereo earbuds" to a device called a "Walkman" which played CD's. Just tucked the buds into the foam in the 29's.

Over the years I graduated to a MP3 player the size of my thumb, which I strapped to my hat because I too hated the spider web of cords.

I then moved on to a Jabra Street Bluetooth Headset, Jabra STREET2 which hangs around my neck, uses standard earbuds, and I just run the cords up my shirt. I then pair it with any BT device I may be carrying.

I have probably 5 pair of 29's or their more recent versions, their prices are down to around $20. I can still switch in an MP3 player, different earbuds, the Milwaukees, or the Jabra with any of them.

To me the advantage of my way is that the components are fairly standard and inexpensive and if I misplace any of them, except the Jabra, I can switch out.

As I posted in 2009:
Luckily I went about totally deaf a few years ago, due to the fact that my ears grow enough wax to make candles, and that the doctors thought they got them cleaned the first time. After they finally pulled about 2 inches of wax out I could hear ants walking on the carpet. I'm trying to not repeat the experience!

So I still demand hearing protection, but like music with it.

The jabra died. Sony makes a stereo bluetooth wireless similar to the Jabra with an FM radio and again lets you swap in your own earbuds.

I use the Bluebuds by Jaybird with my IPhone for music. Fantastic sound quality, great fit but they do block out noise similar to foam earplugs. They are a little pricey (I think I paid $159) but do come with a lifetime warranty against sweat. (Whatever that means) I recharge them about once every week or two and like them because I can answer the phone without digging the phone out. If I have the phone in the tractor I can get and walk all around it without losing the signal, I imagine it has to be around a 25 to 30 foot range. It's one of those purchases I really like.

This is not helpful to the main point of the thread, but I think it's worth saying.

I wear ear protection, either muffs for most jobs or foam plugs AND muffs while bushhogging. I don't need or want music for a couple of reasons:

1. I want to be able to hear my machine working. Often the first clue that something isn't right is a sound.

2. I don't want the distraction. It's easy enough to get complacent and do something stupid even when paying attention to the job at hand.

And don't even get me started on the phone thing. I HATE TELEPHONES. Between the Navy and various jobs in maintenance, I was shackled to a phone 24/7 for most of 40 years. If I NEVER speak on a telephone again, it'll be a day too soon. One of the main benefits of being out on the tractor is the chance to get away from it all.

JMHO, YMMV.

Aahhh, phones, a necessary evil! I agree totally but hard to do without if you have a business.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FO0IHMY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Hope link works. I have these linked to my phone. I can answer or make calls, listen to music, ect. U wear them around your neck, and there are short wires for the ear buds. I usually wear earmuff over these as the hearing protection these alone provide is minimal.

Same.
I searched high & low for hearing protection with Bluetooth. I'm glad I didn't find anything because these are much more useful for other situations too. I wear them a lot & just put the earmuffs over when needed.

My Ipod Shuffle 1st generation finally gave it up. Can't reload the OS as it's not supported any longer, not Win 7 compatible. I bought one of these at Walmart for $30, actually I like it better than the Shuffle. Shows up as an external drive on the computer, just drag and drop songs to it, no software needed. New Ipod Shuffle was $46, too small for my fingers and has to use ITunes. One less program to upgrade.
