47F & raining currently. We've had light to moderate rain all day with more expected tonight.

It was a good day to stay inside and do some reading. I'm sure you have all been curious about the origins of the description, "Mad As A Hatter." Beaver felt (made from the barbed undercoat hairs shaved from a beaver pelt) for hats was originally stiffened and shrunk using mercury compounds, causing poisoning which came to be known as "madhatter's disease."

If you are looking to part with $500-$800 for that perfect Christmas gift for the person who has everything, hand-made beaver felt hats can be purchased at:
Dave Brown Hats - Quality Custom Hat Maker to the Stars

and maybe here:

NO WAY IS THAT GOOD FOR YOU....
I'm sure it isn't ...

I did spend a little coin a while back for PPE ... leather apron from Harbor Freight was on sale for $10 ... that helps to keep the pants from catching on fire while grinding (yes - I've actually had it happen :D) ... unfortunately they didn't use Kevlar thread ... so it's started to fall apart ...

Also ponied up a whopping $6 for a set of cheap sleeves at Matheson ... keeps the arms from getting toasted ... probably should see if they have a neck protector as well.

Sure wish I could find my welding beanie ...

The Eiffel Tower isn't worth it.
LOL ... the French might disagree ...

spf 100???
Nah ... I'll just get a neck protector ...

SPF 100 ain't gonna do much for the hot flying boogers (weld spatter)

Wanna talk excitement ?

You ain't experienced real excitement until you've had a nice sized one of those drop down into your shoe ... or your ear ... lol ...

David, which hot tub from Costco did you get and what is your heat source?

Evolution, 6 person, 70 jet

It's a 240v system, 4kw heater.
I added 4kw PV panels to power it from my main system. Have it on a timer so it only runs 3 times a day about 5 hours total. I can override timer but don't.
I keep it set 95/96 and it only loses about 2 degrees overnight.
Very pleased with it.

48 degrees going up to 71 today, in a steadily warming trend that will go into the eighties (!!) by early next week. And no rain here at all. getting dusty and means I'm back on new plant watering detail today.
David/Sodamo: I think this little smiley says it all: :cloud9:

Good morning! 64˚ heading to 82˚ variable winds, sunny.
The yellow cat is happy the mower is off the tractor, and the tractor spent the night inside.
I'll work on my remote garden today. It has very sandy soil and I'll prepare it with my 6' tiller so it will be ready to plant watermelons next year.

Apparently that was the style ... down in your neck of the woods ...

That's where I bought it ... some 35+ years ago ... ;)

... and your wife laughs only when her back is turned.:D
Not terribly likely ... but hey - if that's what ya wanna go with, have at it ...

46 this morning high of 67 later and finally wind is going to die down. Tomorrow will be even better high in 70s. This wind has really dried things out and no rain in forecast for a while mild conditions thru mid November
Good Morning

36F and cloudy ... heading up to 62F with abundant sunshine ...

Another day or two of sun and no rain and hopefully it will be dry enough to work around the barn.

Got some welding and rebar bending done last night, oiled all the airtools, and did some cleaning and straightening up. Yesterday afternoon I screened about a dozen bucket loads of topsoil to fill in some low spots and cleared all the (previously dumped) grass from the Trac-Vac off the field next to the shop so I can use that for bucking firewood.

Not really tired at this point so I'll stay up until I am.

Probably make the run this morning to TSC for the lower lift pins and hydraulic fluid, NAPA for filters, and Home Depot for the 'crete ... drop off an empty tank at Matheson-Valley along the way ...

Need to clean off the back of the pallet fork frame so I can weld an SSQA plate on it tonight and get them operational again.

Hope everyone has a good day ... except for Don ... (... j/k ...)

Pour second cup of coffee. 30° with some clouds this morning. Heading to 60° with a mix of sun and clouds. Need to cut lawn one last time. Then rig up Trak-Vac to finish out lawn care season.
Good Morning All.

43F, not raining. Should be clearing out today. Sat-Sun is forecast to be dry here.

I'm off to the eye doctor this morning for a regular check-up and it's time to get new glasses.

Our older son is coming for a visit this weekend while our DIL visits her folks in Florida. Haven't seen him in a while so that will be fun.

Have a good one.

Since you did not say Texas or any real location I'm suspecting Oklahoma, or some mild case of dementia.
In my "neck of the woods" we did not even have a MacDonald's 35 years ago much less a welding shop with pretty accessories.
In any event, it is definitely a collector's item and could be quite valuable. :drink:
