Snow Attachments Snowblowers vs PTO HP

I am not saying they do not work. Just the snowblowers I have used always seemed underpowered. Maybe they are too much for garden tractors.

74 inch, 30 at the PTO. I have had good luck with it not bogging down.

I'm also using a 74" blower and 30 PTO HP. As long as I clear the snow son after it stops, no problems. I will have to use the clutch in frozen snow or high piles (such as you get at the end of the driveway after the county truck plows through). I've gone through drifts that were 4' deep, but it's real slow going.

I didn't think you were. :) Just say'n most of us have to work with what we have.

If blowing 2' deep snow by 6' wide by the diameter of the auger, think how heavy that would be to shovel by hand, the strength required to throw it, and how much weight is involved if it is dense snow. blowing snow is by far the hardest my tractor ever works.

It would be interesting to see a head to head comparison rating of blower brands that compares their efficiency (most done with equal power or something like that).

Adding a bit to Dave's response...lawn and garden tractors are normally powered by single or twin cylinder air-cooled gas engines...not much torque as most CUTs which, of course, are normally diesel. Nor do lawn and garden tractors have the low gearing. So, I'd reckon many lawn and garden tractors are underpowered for snow blowing...especially if there's significant accumulation (anything more then 6")....worse if it's a wet snow.
Just stating my opinion here...I've had lawn and garden tractors, but never used one with a snow blower.

60" with 22 HP @ the PTO ...

Running a 64 inch with 21 HP @ the PTO......hoping for lots and lots of snow to feed it this season too!

I run a 74" blower with 22 HP at the PTO. The HST makes all the difference in heavy banks rolled up by the city plow.

This is a 5 foot Lorenz on a TC33D in heavy drifts and I wished I had at least 10 more HP.
