50 hour fluid change

   / 50 hour fluid change #41
... and decided to change the hydro fluid. The drain plug had a significant number of metal filings on it, around 75% covered and a 1/4 inch high. ...

I found similar metal particles on all magnets when I did the 400 hr hydro oil change on my DK45s gear tractor. This model has magnets on the two big center line drain plugs and one inside the hydraulic filter. The magnets were quite powerful to they extent the made it hard to re-install the plugs. These particles made me wonder if the hydro oil wasn't changed at 50 hours, if they didn't clean the magnets then, or if the transmission is still shedding metal. Hopefully, it's the first possibility because it will be years before I do this job again.

I don't believe any part of your tractor is fully broken in at the 50 hour mark. I changed just the filter at 50, then the oil and filter at a bit over 300. Magnets were covered, (they are some kind of powerful), but that doesn't mean they quit working. All those bits of metal stuck on there are now magnetized, and will attract and hold more stuff.
It was 5 engine oil changes, on my pickup, before the magnetic drain plug came out clean. (I'm old school, 3000 mile oil change interval).....Just saying that 50 hours isn't much time, and don't believe it's enough to reach a state of total wear in.

I had a tractor for 28 years and changed the hydro oil 3 times during the 1600 hrs I used it. There were alway filings in the hydro screen. All it takes on a geared tractor is a couple of gear grinds and you have filings. The most wear on a mechanical component happens at it's beginning of use. May be advantageous to get the early crud out.

Well thank God I'm not the only one that had shavings on my drain plug and this thread seems quite similar to the one I mentioned in this thread from 10 years earlier. At least we have an idea where they come from. Thanks for the posts guys.

I too had filings but NOT shavings. That is a whole new ballgame. Be interested what you find in this machine.
Cheers.

I was all prepped [since I was on vacation] to change the oil in the 3032e [green].
Noticed I didn't have but shave more than HALF of fifty hours [27.6 for those keeping score] on the thing.

So - I did the right thing - traded it in on a new cabbed one :)

[it is the allergies killing me, which is why I went to a cab model. hours were so low due to not being able to be outside until the killing freeze hits]

After looking at grm61 pics on page 3, I will change my hyd. fluid at 50 hrs. for sure .Yes Kubota hyd. fluid is costly but much cheaper than any repair that might be needed because I didn't do it .
