I have a hard time seeing any 2016 half ton being able to tow 15K legally. Yeah sure they can do it. My dads '10 F-150 can tow a concrete crusher that weighs at least 20 tons, not legally though. with the current tow ratings of half tons i just dont see them being able to legally tow 15K in a year. Just my :2cents:

And if Ford keeps lightening up the trucks to improve payload?
IMO hauling 15 k with what will be the lightest truck to ever be able to do it is a mixed bag...
I WANT my truck to have some real mass when 15 k starts to try and push it around...

Get a grip. It's not about him, or you. There's about 6 good posts that have just been deleted for no good reason. Doesn't bode well for freedom of speech in this country

Sometimes that's what happens on a privately owned forum. We don't have the "right" to say whatever we like on someone else's internet dime.

I don't think these 1/2 ton have been 1/2 tons since 10 plus years ago. Just because it's light doesn't mean you can't safely tow 3 times it's weight or more so 15K is not out of reach. I don't think we will see it any time soon but in 5 years yes. We are already at 12K tow ratings with Ford and GM.

I am lazy and have not researched the issue...
But how much weight is Ford saving on the aluminum frame?
My biggest concern would be frame integrity and long term reliability...
I am certain that Ford engineers have performed stress analysis on the new frame...
But even with all the testing and such long term reliability is always a concern...

IIRC Ford said that they saved 700# in switching to aluminum.

It's still a Steel Frame. The body is aluminum saving 700# over the previous year.

The 2015 F450 is rated to tow 3.62 times its base curb weight (Curb weight: 8611, Tow rating: 31200)

If they build it to handle the weight, I don't see why the F150 couldn't be rated the same way.

I agree. Semi trucks carry 5 times the weight.
