Drove the new Ford F150 2.7 Ecoboost

I love my '12 EB but the mileage is mostly terrible (avg about 16 mpg). I will be interested in the 2.7L as a run-around for my wife as the Super Crew with 6.5' bed is a little bargey in parking lots.

Has Ford figured out how to make a real truck tailgate yet? That's one that I can't stand about my truck is the way the tailgate is designed.
WOW on your mileage!Im glad I did not pony up $40 grand for a new ford F150.I guess I will keep my 2006 F150 with the 5.4 triton that gets 15 mpg.

They are already running low 12's with flashed EB's. No other mods except for drag radials.

I seen Ecoboost with just a computer flash by Bully Dog putting down 387HP at the wheels and 400 plus FT LBS.

I get about 16.5 around town and 19 on the highway at 70 mph. I agree that you should keep you 2006 if it is still serving you well. Keep in mind though that the ecoboost has a distinct advantage in performance yet burns similar amount of fuel as your 5.4. I have a friend at work who has a 4.6 liter in his ford and he told me the same thing "heck my truck gets the same mileage as your new one". I tell him that a prius gets better than both of ours but not in the same class.

While on the discussion of new F-150s, did they cancel the Raptor trim? On the topic of ecoboosts, if they built a 5.0 or a 6.2 ecoboost those would do well in the 3/4 and 1 ton pickups im sure, along with decent fuel economy.

I have thought for years that a 2 speed axle in a pickup would give great mpg in H and great pulling power in L. Like a 3.55/4.10 combo...

The EcoBoost engines are boosted and are tuned to have their torque and low RPM, very similar to a diesel. There's no need to rev them up like a 2-stroke motorcycle because the torque curve is more like a plateau...flat as Kansas.

So they're holding it at more of a constant RPM in the middle of the torque curve and using the gears to keep it there? That makes more sense. Thanks.

I have said the same thing but even more severe gearing like a 2.75 and a 5.30 on the other end. Match that up with a 10 speed tranny and computer control it all and you would have something.

47% of Americans live in counties on one of the three coasts. Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf. About 80% live within 50 miles of a coast.

Chris

The fourth coast of the U.S. (the Great Lakes) has more miles of coastlines than the three contiguous salty coasts combined. ;)

A low rpm Turbo motor actually has a lot less stress on it's rotator than it's high rpm brother. Timing and fuel delivery have to be spot on though.

Perhaps there are future plans to use this block with more HP in either gas or diesel.

That would be an interesting engine size in diesel. Ford is sure pushing the envelope.
