Snow Attachments snow blade vs snow pusher

/ snow blade vs snow pusher #21
Well this convinced me. I'm turning my bucket with log hooks attached into a snow pusher. This way I can stack logs (as I do my logging in the winter), leave the hooks on and mount the pusher sides in case I have to plow using the logging hooks as a mounting platform. Apparently I have to come up with some way to remove and put on the sides of the pusher in an instant.

Exactly what I was thinking, why not just add removable wings on a bucket, bucket would have to be at least 6 feet wide.
Or as rustyiron did, add them to a 7 or 8 foot blade. Thats the way i'd go.

Hey Rusty, how about a close up on how those are attached.:)

Standard ploughs (plows) move snow forward and to the side. This is most effective for raod, lanes, paths and moving snow away form objects or building large winrows. The pusher blades are for just that; pushing. They are for straight line pushing of large volumes of snow and are far more efficient at clearing large, wide open areas than just angled ploughs. We use a combination of both. Typically trucks with angle ploughs to get the snow away form buildings and such and to build large winrows, then the big tractors and loaders with pushers take the bis stuff.

I went out early this morning and bought some stock. I thought it best to fabricate right on the bucket for a better look at any fitment issues that may arise. Even if it doesn't work out, it only cost 40 bucks and a couple hrs work. My bucket is 60" but we get some wet snows around here so I am not worried I am building something the tractor can't handle. Not having to go back 80 million times to plow the continuous windrows should save some time.
Should be all detailed and painted by this aft.

Run a length of chain between the upper corners to keep the plate from splaying out under load.

Not much to it, but it does take near an hour to put them on. I'm making another blade so that I can just switch the blades, only minutes.

Thanks Rusty, I saved them, going to make a set this summer.

I took a picture today of what I finished up with the bucket/snow pusher. I agree with both Rusty and tcart about these panels deflecting. I was hoping that using a quarter inch piece of steel acting as a stop against the 3/4" log hook while using 3/16th inch panels would be sufficient enough to maintain rigidity but to me it's only a 50/50 shot. I'm thinking I would need to either add a chain or weld in some "stiffeners" such as Rusty's demonstrates but then the things are getting heavier and heavier. It took 3 minutes to get these on as they are held in with one 1/2 inch bolt. It only cost $40 to make. If they break; they break.
