I'm looking to get a snow pusher for my tractor and am wondering what size snow pusher this tractor would best handle. I have a John Deere 5410 MFWD tractor, 541 loader, no cab, with R1 Ag tires. The 5410 is a 81 HP tractor and the tires are not weighted. I don't know how much the tractor weighs. I googled the tractor weight and it could be anywhere from 5,000 to 8,700 lbs. I have a small farm and need to use the tractor to clear about 1.5 acre cow corral as well as around my outbuildings.

I live in the UP of Michigan and we get a lot of snow during the winter. The local L & M Fleet store has a Tartar 8' snow pusher that weighs about 870 lbs and am wondering if this would be fine or should I consider something bigger. Any input or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I think it would match up to your tractor/loader about perfect, only thing I would suggest is add some weight to rear end for better traction. Either filled tires or 3pt counterweight or better yet both

I would not be considering anything larger than the 8' pusher you are looking at. Maybe even considering something just over the tractor width.
I would rather make an additional few passes than run out of traction 1/2 way through a push. So much is dependant on the snow though...

I have a 1K rear blade on the 3-point and 1550 pounds of RimGuard in the rear tires. This added weight really helps when moving snow.

We NEVER get snow like on the UP - thank goodness. I really would not want to go back to a 3-point, PTO driven snow thrower. My neck & shoulders start twitching/aching - just at the thought. I have racked more than enough time with a thrower on my first tractor.

FWIW - you are very likely to run into snow conditions that make the eight foot blade too large. Simple answer - raise the blade and take less snow with each pass OR just take a smaller bite. Nobody says you have to take full width - full depth with each pass.
