Must remove the hitch?

I agree, one does nit have to stare at the ground to be mindful of terrain. Could be a pothole.. Etc

Not slamming you, but I don't think you need to look at your feet constantly while walking. I'm sure you would notice a huge puddle of oil under the back of a truck or a snow pile that would make the route impassable... all without looking at your feet.

I could care less if people take them out or leave them in. If I slam my shin into one, I say "dumbass" to myself and keep on going about my day. If someone wants to be courteous and take theirs out for my benefit, that is a kind gesture and I appreciate it, but I certainly don't expect it.

I don't know what to think about someone that is to lazy to watch where they are going. I am glad I don't live in the city where people don't watch where they are going and take for granted that someone has cleared a pathway for them.

Keep hearing "watch where you're walking"...Personally I don't spend my life walking around looking at my feet..Everyone I know that leaves the drawbar in has admitted that they are too lazy to remove them...I don't ask what else they are too lazy to do when hooking the trailer up because I'd rather not know.

Personally, I have 4 different drawbars for different trailers that I own. When I'm done towing, even for a few hours, the drawbars are removed and stored. I see no reason to leave them installed..Never have, never will.

Slam me all you want.

I do the same as you. And also have 4 bars.

The complaint here is not about whether the hitch is in or out, it is about being legally required to take it out when not towing.

For a while they were also talking about making people remove plow frames from their trucks during the summer. Another useless law that will never pass.

Hey wait, how about having to show our 'papers' when traveling too.

Govt has assumed way too much power, and way too many laws on the books as it is...

Maybe I missed something but no one is calling for a law...Just some concern for your fellow man, of which there appears to be none..Oh well.

I thought we had discussed this recently. I looked for a thread but didn't find one quickly so... new thread. Had a guy at work this past week knock his shin on a hitch in the parking lot and report an injury because of it. This prompted the company to release a company wide email pointing out IL state regulation stating you must remove the hitch (or cover it in a red cover) and please comply with said provisions for safety. So I looked it up. Illinois General Assembly - Full Text of HB3669 :confused2:

There are some politicians who indeed want it to be a law. Fortunately it didn't pass.

I leave mine in and grease it and watch where I walk to avoid all obstacles high and low.

Leaving a db in, in and of itself does not show a lack of care for others. If you feel that you have to walk within a few inches of my vehicle, just practice some personal responsibility. What if there was a pothole 6" behind my bumper, if you don't see my db, you won't see the pothole.

Remember kids, be careful, its a dangerous world out there, look both ways before crossing roads, and occasionally check out your surroundings!

What if someone is loading their groceries, and their 2yr old is standing there and you walk over the kid because you have to be so close to someones vehicle. And feel offended to occasional glance at the path you are walking??

Good grief.

I agree, its quite preposterous that someone else should be responsible for me not knowing where I'm walking!

Soundguy has a point. Watch were you walk. It's only your fault if you walk into something. I bet in every case of someone walking into a hitch. The hitch was occupying that space first. So be nice to it and walk around.
What's next a call to remove spare tires from jeeps. They stick out past the bumper. How many have walked into them?

In following this thread, I've decided that it is fair to those who use their hitch a lot, that it be left in as they please. For myself who only uses the hitch now and then (mostly in summer), it seems reasonable to remove it........regardless of the law. Now .... that is settled.

Post #1 was about being told it was a legal requirement, when it wasn't.

Once again..Good Grief....

I mistakenly believed that the people on TBN actually cared about someone beyond themselves..This thread proves I was very wrong. Lesson learned by me.

As I said before..Whatever.

Good grief, you guys are slippin'!

I'm still waiting for someone to post that video of that woman who walked right into a water fountain!

I don't believe anyone here was talking about texting....If you care to waste your time on that then so be it.

If you are too lazy to remove your drawbar when it's not in use, I wonder what else you're too lazy to do when the trailer is in use.. Just sayin..

Tim, if you are walking through parking lots watching your feet all the time there is no telling what you would bump in to. :cool:I try to keep a look out for my own safety. :D
