Change in Stihl design?

Have you found that your 261 can't discharge the chips fast enough and occasionally clogs the bar and sprocket? The clearance in the bar cover is just not enough.. My Stihl dealer said I am not the only one that has had the trouble. He has had same trouble..

I have not had that trouble. Maybe I need to keep my chains sharper. Curious what saw chain are you using?

Stihl RS full chisel round ground chain.. .025 on depth gauges all other angles are factory settings... I grind all my own chains but it did it from day one with factory new chain..
Chips are perfect size.. Not noodles...

I haven't had a problem with regular cutting, but if I attempt to noodle a round (cut lengthwise with grain) with my 261, the clutch cover jams up fast and then the bar/chain jams up too. Normally when noodling, you can vary the angle of cut to send different size chips through and keep things clear, but that doesn't help much on the 261. So I have learned not to noodle with that saw. My Stihl 461 noodles fine, as does my new Husky 562XP.

I haven't checked to see, but it's very likely that a larger wider clutch cover could be put on a 261, and that ought to improve things.

I have trouble with my 361 doing that sometimes as well.

Maybe Stihl meant the 261 to be used with low profile chains??

There is nothing like a top handle when it comes to limbing. At the same time , here is nothing like the kickback dangers of a Top Handle. Just be careful and aware of that if you get one., I cut professionally in a past life and know they have their pluses and minuses.
