The WICKED Root & Debris GRAPPLE!!!!!!!

I have carried loads much larger than that with my little one. You need more practice of "rolling and smooshing":)

Having seen many Xfaxman pictures over time, I rest assured that those pictures were not taken on a particularly large load for him, he just had them on hand. Having said that, my go-to grapple has a 46" opening and at times I wish it was more, but not often. I think that's an optimum size for 50 to 80 HP. I think I would be very frustrated with a 30" opening, but do agree that for smaller tractors EA has hit the mark. They are just not big boy grapples.

I think for 90% of the time a larger opening a grapple for a CUT would just be for bragging rights.

If I have a big pile of brush I will pull into and push until the tractor won't push or anymore or the whole pile is moving so I have I nice full load in the grapple.

I loaded the truck in 3 grapple loads.

I'm familiar with the technique. It doesn't help on this twenty foot tall twiggy stuff that grows along my swap's waters edge on my road.

Maybe you could make a video of how you load the grapple and we could give you some pointers. The grapple should have made easy work of that pile for you.

Here is a video of me loading some brush.

Smoosh? You mean you don't roll around on the ground with brush and smooch it??? That's been my problem!

Agree with your technique but grapple opening size will still determine how much light weight brush you can get into the maw before clamping, even with your compression technique (I do the same). None of us have trouble lifting a full load of brush, volume is the issue. I could load and carry as much brush (not stumps, logs) in my CK20 (avatar) as with my DK40 simply because no load of brush weighs more than 400-500lbs tops.

Right, the tines could left the same length, just raise the pivot point.. <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/files/attachments/407505-wicked-root-debris-grapple-loflin-mg-jpg"/> Notice how far above the top of the attachment plate the upper jaw hinges are. <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/files/attachments/407506-wicked-root-debris-grapple-p6060019-jpg"/>

Xfaxman;

What brand and width is your grapple?

Thanks!

Over two years of Wicked Grapples with an average of over 2 sold per day(I just checked) and only a couple of guys that think their grapple needs to open wider.

This tells me that, overall, the Wicked Grapples for compact tractors are Golden!!

People love them. A negative comment is extremely rare, almost unheard of.

We often sell and ship Wicked Grapples to dealers.....dealers with their own grapples to offer, but sometimes they order a couple......one to go and one to show.....dealers that pay the same price that you would pay....but.......these dealers have customers that demand our grapples for their new tractors and will not have it another way!!

Travis, it's obvious ya'll have a good grapple. But if I have a 5 foot wide and 5 foot high pile of brush and I try to take a bite with my 30 inch opening I'm not getting much. Now I'll admit I was maybe spoiled with the DK55 and the WR Long grapple that opened approx 180 degrees. Maybe I need to smoosh the pile but I'll need to watch some smoosh videos to see how that's done.

Yea, the technique and straying from what you're used to may have a lot to do with it. Just don't google smoosh videos because there's no telling what you'll find.

No need to be defensive. Any grapple is a good grapple. Nobody complains about their grapple because the alternative is to use your own back. It would be like complaining about how cold beer is when you're thirsty. We are just pointing out a simple design change that would enhance an already good grapple. Put another way, why wouldn't EA want to increase the jaw opening if it was a simple change in design geometry and enhanced the brush capacity per load?
