As long as diesel costs more per btu than gasoline in the US. Plus the thousands extra to option the diesel in a vehicle. The light duty highway diesel is unlikely to get a foothold in the U.S. the DI gassers have negated any advantage diesel had over port injected gasoline engines.
On the contrary in the most of the rest of the world. Gasoline is over taxed to cost more than diesel. Hence light diesel vehicles in those markets. However this was in the past with the less stringent emissions regs . Even Europe is now experiencing a drop in light diesel sales with the extra cost and loss of fuel efficiency with the latest emissions ratings.
