Shed Roof Pitch??

   / Shed Roof Pitch?? #11
I am putting in a steel building in SoCal, I could get away with very little pitch but I chose an 8/12 to keep in line with the house and with a look similar to a New England Lobsta Shack.

Cool. Pictures?

What is the least amount of pitch (inches of drop per foot) that is acceptable?

I live in South Carolina, so snow/ice loading is not much of an issue.

Is 1.5" per foot ok?

Match the roof pitch of the other buildings on the property so that all the buildings share a unified theme.

This isn't the building but close.
One 10x10 door centered in the high peaked section and One 8x8 door in the lower roofed section but other wise the same thing... 32' wide x 36' deep.

Should be here in two to three weeks.

When I had the porch built the inspector said 3/12 unless I went with a metal roof that seals on the connection between the pieces. Do you have an inspector to deal with, if you do you might as well make him happy because if he is not happy you won't be.

That is guaranteed! Unhappy building inspectors make life hard and expen$ive!

They can be a pain sometimes, but I have never run into one that wasn't trying to make something better or safer (even if others think it's overkill). Good ones are demanding but flexible and will give some slack based on trust.

What are you using for the roof? If it's metal you can get away with 2:12 and sealant on the overlap. If you are going with shingles, 4:12 is the standard because water can get back up under the shingles. You can go with a flat roof with a membrane type roof. Basically you just put a solid piece of roof rated rubber over the whole roof and attach it to the sides. This is how RV's are done.

One of the biggest problems associated with flat roofs in my part of the country, East Texas, is the build up of leaves. Those leaves stay up there when it rains and once they get wet, they start to break down, turn into dirt, and then hold more water and eventually cause failure in the roof. You really have to keep the debris off of the roof with lower pitched roofs.

ww2 is just double ribbed metal roofing on low slope but gives less coverage than standard single rib. There may be single you can buy for low slope but I would certainly check the manufactures recommendations for min. slope. Using sealant Like Eddie said may be an option .
