Gee that's all doom and gloom. The music is depressing too. I wonder if the people who make those things ever have happy days

Yes, it is gloomy. The odd thing is that someday by some means--asteroid, internal political implosion, Civil War #2, climate gone wild, WWIII, whatever--it will come to pass. I take that as a given but I don't act on it like dedicated preppers do. I guess that makes me a Disaster Denier. :)

In any case, prepping has become a fair-sized business which in itself tends to grow the number of preppers.

The ladies of the Lexington Garden Club use Mushroom compost from Madisonville. - 35 miles from your work - Here is some discussion and info on it. Maybe available at Walmart also. ??

Madisonville Facility | Monterey Mushrooms

The swing is not in wifi range.

Drove down to Gonzales Texas, there's a mushroom farm about 4 miles east of town. Easy enough. Got 3 yards with tax for about $38 and change.

Need to till it in now.

Sales- Compost- Kitchen Pride Mushrooms

Will let you know how it works.

New water pump installed. Naturally, being a different pump the connections were different and not a drop in replacement. Fortunately, I was able to scrounge enough fittings to get it functional without making a second trip to town. Will I replace the "functional install" with the minimal "pretty install"? Maybe someday, like next time I have to work on the pump. Now to see if the old pump is economically reparable.

Good Morning. 0835, overcast, 62F with 95% humidity. Forecast high of 65F with 80% chance of morning showers, and a low of 43F tonight. I got half the garden planted yesterday. Will work on the rest of it today.

Yep, that is the Chipola River. Jackson County is a few miles north of the Larro Ranchero. That is where the rich "Larro's" live. My poor part of the family is down here in Calhoun County. But we are too crowded already. Five or six cars came by on the road yesterday while I was working in the garden. So if any of you are Preppers, I would take it as a personal favor if you went somewhere else:eek: {It's not that I don't like folks, I just don't like them to be where I'm at}

Hope everyone has a good day,

Larro

I went internet exploring this evening. I see Calhoun County population is growing at a good clip. The town of Marianna sure has some ghosts in its history. I don't think I'm moving to Altha, too hot in the summer and too cold in the part of winter that northerners like to escape to somewhere warm. So, you have one less Yankee to worry about.

The western part of the county, out in the sand hills, is where most of the growth is. It is about all the land that isn't old family farm land, or big timber company land. It's still timber land {planted pines}, but most of it has always belonged to absentee land owners{ie... Yankees}. When Margie has to adjust the voting districts because of population changes, it is always out there that has the biggest changes.

We are always close to the hottest and coldest part of the state. A cool day in the summer is when it get's down in the low 80's at night. Of course the humidity is near 100% at night, so you don't get much help there.

Most of the lambs are keeping their heads down this morning as we have a stiff breeze blowing. Dog checked out each one it found that looked too still, giving them a poke with his nose until they moved enough to prove to him they were still ok. A few of the mothers objected to this and went into fox offensive. By the time we were half way round he'd had enough of them and headed for home, leaving me to slowly catch up. My 59 year old knees are no match for a 3 year old mutt. I almost always do the morning rounds on foot, however I may need to resort to a bit of powered transport to give the joints a rest.

wngsprd : Good to hear you managed to get out and wet a line. Hope you have better luck than me at patching waders on a seam.

29F with clouds. ~40F today.

No plans for today. I may sit and do nothing just to excite JD.

Eric, I have a few sticky joints too, like they need a grease zerk. Are ATVs and UTVs popular in your area?

33 and some snow just to the south, but clearing here. Should get up to 45 but windy.

Going to town today with wife. Taking her to a flyfishing class and we'll see if she gets the bug...then some good Tex-Mex for lunch and shopping.

Eric, patched my waders yesterday with a product called Aquaseal. Can't wait to test them out. Sounds like fun watching your dog with the sheep.

good morning all, 40 degrees on a cold wet morning, showers this morning, then clearing out and my it's going to get cold tonight, well for here...26 degrees now shown for tonight. Going to be some unhappy tulips tomorrow for sure. I guess I'd better get more pics taken today before Mother Nature brings the curtain down on this batch.

Wingsprd, sounds like you have a wonderful day ahead. I'm sure there might be a pretty fly or two you might find...

Eric, you gave me a good laugh with your "red swing" translation. I live among what is affectionately known as the rednecks in this area, definitely not the monied area since those folks live in large homes in developments down by the River. But out here where every other mailbox is a Woolard or an Alligood, who when they marry I'm told
become Walligoods... the folks here are quite proud of their trucks and their retrofitted dual exhausts and louder mufflers. Here the discussion at the breakfast table at the local greasy spoon is about the rain, crops, what so and so was doing now, who is sick or died, fishing, hunting and cutting down pine trees. So I live happily among the rednecks; I like farmers and small communities so it's all entertainment to me.

Is there a British version of "redneck"? One electrician working on my house said he was proud to be a redneck. Ok.

Which then leads me to the swing part. Going to take a pic today of an existing old swing on my place that needs a rehab badly. Like Don's...but maybe mine will be in green. Need to replace the chains first; don't trust what's on there. And I might have to replace the boards. Hmmmm, what's left?....
So, no "red swing" for me, but maybe a green one. TxDon has really motivated me. On my to do list but still down there a ways. I have a nice swing on my front porch which was in perfect condition when I bought this home six months ago, and I have sat/swung on that front porch swing many times. I like to sit out early in the morning, when it's warmer of course, and watch the sun come up while I drink my first cup of coffee. Like welcoming the day.

Will I replace the "functional install" with the minimal "pretty install"? Maybe someday,
This sure sounds familiar David. Spend more time on this or go on to something else...
good job for your rainy day list.

you all go out and do something fun today.

I think the whole idea of "rednecks" would make a fun thread by itself.
badge of honor to many, ridiculed by others

btw, my neck gets pretty red even wearing a hat by the end of the summer. Or perhaps just a patrician brown vs
a plebian red...;)

better that one gets a red neck from working than a white neck from not is a strongly held theme here.
