How to "relax" and "let it go"

The come back of the year award !

Yeah, I realize he took my post in a way I really didn't intend.

They call golf "a game for life". As you get older, you just tee it forward, play from the gold tees. For some of us folks, it can be a wonderful few hours of enjoyment with some friends on a nice day. But, if you've never had any good instruction or coaching, it certainly can be just be a terribly frustrating exercise in futility.

Just some brief instructions on the proper grip of the club, how to swing, etc., can get you where you are playing a round halfway decent, and it can become a great way "relax" and "let it go". It's not for everyone though. It can be just the opposite for folks who take it too seriously, or are real competitive.

I simply took it like you typed it, i.e., "terrible hack". :)

If it works for you I'm happy. It's just a bit self absorbed of you to think it would automatically give the same satisfaction to everyone if they would just take some pointers from you or someone that knows the game. I.e., my reference to welding. Would you go take some brief instruction from someone about welding and take it up as a relaxing hobby? :)

Yep, should have used a little smiley thing behind that. Hope you have a nice Easter. That is, if you're a Christian - don't want to offend you further.

You never offended me in the first place. :)

tlj87, I used to suffer from the exact same affliction, so I can really feel for you. I also speak from the perspective of being forced to relinquish most of my OCD by a debilitating illness. I do NOT recommend this method. But it has taught me a few things. Perhaps these will be useful to you in your situation:

1) Try not to beat yourself up about it. It is just part of who you are, and being a little OCD isn't really bad. Some might consider it a virtue. You are "detail-oriented", right? There are no good ways I know of to significantly reduce your tendency, so it may be best to learn to live with and even celebrate it.

2) The oft-repeated sentiment above of putting things off, or putting them way down the priority list is good. Try it just a little at a time with a few minor tasks/projects, and you may find (as also expressed above) that in the grand scheme of life, many things just really don't matter that much. If you find that you can successfully delay or dismiss just one or two things, keep it up and build on that!

Good luck and best wishes.

- Jay

One of my sayings is that I was not born to mow grass. :D:D:D Before we got a riding lawn mower, I would cut the yard with a DR Mower which was good because I would be so busy sometimes the grass would get really tall!:laughing: Frankly, the yard grass only needs to be cut once a year in the fall when it stops growing. Then you have the rest of the fall, all winter, and the first part of spring before the grass gets long again and "needs" cutting. Nobody can see our house so I can get away with this and I have done it a couple of times.:laughing::laughing:

I was NOT born to cut grass!

I have such a long list of chores to do that I think it would take several months of 40-50 hours work weeks to get my chore list to zero. I simply do not have time to do everything that needs to get done so I prioritize. A big example is the well house. I built s temporary well house that looks like s....t in 2004. The plan was to build a proper well house but it has not happened. I had "scheduled" some time years ago but we got in a car accident that kept me from doing any labor for a good six months and that pushed off the well house build and I have not had time to even look at the project.

With kids and two jobs I have don't have much free time. When we bought the property I knew I would have a few years to work my fanny off getting things done but then the kids would get older and take my time. This is what has happened and it is what should happen. We just spent a week on a great family vacation. When the kids were babies I would burn vacation time working on our place. Now the kids get my time. In a few years they will be out of the house and gone. The grass will still be here needing to be cut.:laughing::laughing:

We are only a care taker to the land for a very short period of time. I can only do a bit of this and that, and when I stop, Momma Nature will take over and do what she wants. Some things are important like family, other things like cutting the grass or building a proper well house are not so important. This stuff used to bother me but reality has forced me to just let it go.

We have had more than our share of health crisis's which puts things into perspective. Somethings are important and others are not at important at all.

Later,
Dan
