You think in-state contractors liked it? Sounds like the union guys the only ones who were actually willing to say something about it and hopefully get the work back to local people who btw may or may not have been unionized.

Well, I can't see how it's the problem of the out of state contractor who got the job and just shows up to fulfill his contract. If anything, they needed to be complaining to their management who choose contracts. I am sure there were local companies who also installed modular offices, so they could have gone local if they really wanted to. Based on the number of jobs we did in NJ, I suspect the local companies just weren't competitive on price.

This study says they do. Bicycle Helmet Statistics. I have zero problem with someone riding a bicycle or motorcycle without a helmet. I think all that wants to ride either a bicycle or motorcycle without a helmet should be able to file papers saying the choice was theirs to make and no tax dollars will be spent for medical treatment or rehab. Then when they fall, or are struck by a motor vehicle or run into something they can enjoy life the way they wanted to.
First of all that is not "a study" but a compendium of studies.

Motorcycle safety studies examine the Crash and the helmet impact. The fact remains that most bicyclists are killed in accidents with cars: whether they have a helmet on or not.

Bicycle helmet standards are a joke. My kids wear skateboard helmets, which are better. I wear a full face helmet all the time when I ride a motorcycle but seldom wear a bicycle helmet while cycling as they are more cosmetic than secure. There is some evidence they reduce head injuries in kids.

Proponents of helmet laws say that they reduce injuries. But evidence for this claim remains mixed. Two studies published last month came to opposing conclusions. The first, published in BMJ, compared rates of cycling-related head injuries in six Canadian provinces before and after they passed helmet legislation. Researchers analyzed data from 1994 to 2008 and, after accounting for baseline trends, concluded that “the overall rates of head injuries were not appreciably altered by helmet legislation.”

I wear a helmet most of the time when snow sledding, as well as when I had motorcycles; I do wonder though how many accidents they cause do to reduced periphial vision. The little twin cylinder Jap bikes that I had vibrated so much that the mirrors were virtually useless.

Saying that it is in The Peoples Republic of New Jersey says it all, but dealing with the abuse of power by minor functionaries has, unfortunately, become a way of life.

You already said the Union complained to management... "Well, the union dicks in the plant complained to management that an under age kid was working there, and made a big stink."

Your statement "If anything, they needed to be complaining to their management who choose contracts." makes it sound like they didn't.

If you can't keep track of what your story is, I'm inclined to believe it's confabulated.

They were complaining about the workers (including me). If the issue was about using local workers (which is the point you raised) they really should have been directing their complaint *at* the managers for not hiring local instead of complaining about the out of state workers who just showed up to work on a contract they got fair and square. Not the workers fault, or concern, that the customer/management picked us over whatever local options they had.

To me this would be no different than when I hired an Amish crew from PA to build my barn -- if a local carpenter came over and yelled at them for not being Virginians, or not being union, or whatever, I would consider that pretty **** rude and way out of line. They are just showing up to do a job they were hired for.

Arnold Schwarzenegger just got a ticket in Australia for riding a bicycle without a helmet.

BTW, after years of research, unlike motorcycles there is zero proof that bicycle helmets actually reduce serious injury in bicycle accidents.

Every accident I've had with a bicycle (and I've had several), a helmet wouldn't have done a darn thing for me except put more torque on my neck. Face, chest, elbows, hands, knees, shins, ankles, buttocks all take the normal contact points. You get a head hit bicycling without a helmet, you're going to die or be paralyzed anyway.

You contradicted yourself and continue to contradict yourself as if repeating it many times will change it's meaning. Good grief...

So sorry I am not living up to *your* standards for recounting *my* story. I'll send you a rough draft for approval next time. Good grief right back at you.

You originally said

........ They just did not like seeing out of state companies coming in and doing business.

to which I replied

You think in-state contractors liked it? Sounds like the union guys the only ones who were actually willing to say something about it and hopefully get the work back to local people who btw may or may not have been unionized.

then you started to contradict yourself and I called you on the contradictions. That's a far cry from what you are now alleging.
