Why 12'? I built my barn 12' tall and kick myself as does my uncle. My two friends all have 10' barns and they are not happy either.

Between us our 10' and 12' barns will not fit my boat, a camper, a pontoon boat, Case backhoe, a GM and Ford dump trucks, ect. At 14' anything that will go down the road will fit.

I didn't think ahead.

I will be building an open shed later. Stairs for second floor storage get pretty long. Storage to keep the garage floor uncluttered is important to me. 10' doors clear my trailers.

I thought 12' cleared all my stuff. Not 3 years later.

I have 12 foot walls in my shop and they work great for me. I need a ladder to get to my top shelves, so I put stuff up there that I rarely use. I can handle a piece of plywood without hitting the ceiling, which is much appreciated from other shops that where not as tall. If I ever build another shop, I'll stick with 12 foot walls. I think they are the perfect height.

Nice looking footings. What does the gravel do at the bottom of them?

Footing were dug this week. Continuous footers. Engineerdesigned and stamped for County Approval because of the shrink swell soil in the area. Footers were dug 24" below frost level at 18". Rebar over compacted gravel.

Thats one of our backhoes (Lawrence Equipment) that we sold. Who did your footings?

All I know is that the gravel had to cover a min of 24" after compaction, below the 18" of concrete and rebar. The engineering company had to come and inspect as they were getting ready to pour. Shrink swell soil is a major issue. The county has very strict guidelines. In the past several home warranty companies went out out of business with all the claims. The county did not look very good as they were accused of failing to inspect, enforce or anticipate problems.

Don Benson. He has super clean equipment. Buys everything new. He also has a Dairy Farm. Jarrett Va.
He is family (son and brother in law) with the builders Benson Construction.

Weather broke for a couple of days. More red clay delivered to raise the pad and it is getting close.

The green is new grass to keep the pond from filling up with runoff. The pond sits off behind the silt fence I put in.

First of many holes.

Pole Condoms. I went with the taller version. I think they are 60". They have improved since the last garage. They have lag bolts with washers and rubber washers to seal out all moisture.

Block got started. Kind of fun to see it coming together after a year of planning. 8 months of sorting out permits and approvals.

Brick and Block between rain. You can see the mortor from the day before that had dried.
