Question about duty cycle

Well, I know I can go over the duty cycle of my 175miller connected to a 60amp fuse panel. I have had it shut down several times. I will admit that for the majority of the welding I do, its only a few inches here and there, but once everything is tacked up, its balls to the wall until the welder, or I, shut down. I have also had my Lincoln idealarc, 250/250 shut down trying to tig 3/8 aluminum, ( even blowed the 60amp fuses a time or two), but never using 1/8 rods. What can I say, I abuse things.

Perhaps we could liken the situation to having two different sized tractors required to do identical tasks within their limits. While both tractors would get the job done generally the components of the larger unit should outlast the smaller one..

Thought I would throw the word "tractor" into this post a couple of times.

Speaking of shiny stuff, I got tired of waiting for CL to help me out, so this should be here Monday -

Nice. A Hougen is def on my wish list. In the mean time I picked up a used cheapo Ryobi POS for $20 and lopped 8" off the column.



I used it to drill 5/8" holes in my welding table (á la welding web). Couldn't use my annular cutters tho....

Actually there is no such word as Weldor. A person who uses a "Welding Machine" is a welder. Somehow this "weldor" BS got started and refuses to die.
If you mean to reference the equipment it is a welding machine, welding torch, etc but the person using it is always a WELDER.

Terry, you do know they make a adapter to use annular cutters in a drill press. My large craftsman actually has a 3/4 chuck I can put a annular cutter into.

Somehow this "weldor" BS got started and refuses to die.

I saw it in a Lincoln Electric book.

Lincoln are the ones who came up weldor to distinguish the difference between a machine and the person using it. It can be confusing sometimes. It doesn't matter what duty cycle a machine has if the person using it has a lower duty cycle.
