You leave that tractor parked around here (St. Louis, A.K.A greater metropolitan Ferguson), and you can be sure someone will steal your tires & wheels !!

Yep, would you believe they stole the rest of the tractor, but left the muffler and coffee can! :D

I had a whoops with my truck and trailer today. I unloaded something out of the truck bed, and apparently forgot the tailgate open. I then drove across the yard and made a tight turn and backed into where I needed to unload the timbers off of the trailer. I got out to a nice crunch in the tailgate where it kissed the tongue jack on the trailer.

On the bright side, thieves are no longer as interested in your tailgate.

I've been casually looking for a NTM pickup for a little while. April 28th, we were in St Joe, MO when I saw a Chevy crew cab I wanted to take a look at. Went back to the dealer's lot before we left town, turned out to be a 2014, 6 banger, not what I needed. When we got home, the wife came up with an ad for one near KC that I'd seen online, but hadn't pursued since it didn't have many options. Since she came up with it, I thought I'd better call about it! :D Didn't want to go the next day since I needed to clean out the trade-in, so asked the salesman about looking at it the 30th. Salesman called about 7 pm the 29th that it'd sold, so I got back on the internet for more searching. Found one in Waukee, IA, three hours away, called the dealer that evening, talked it over with a salesman & left a $500 (refundable) deposit to hold it for the next day. Got there at 9:30 am, looked over, drove it & made the deal. 2013 Silverado 4wd crew w/5.3, trailer package, HD cooling & more, just 16,500 miles: HPIM1642.jpg HPIM1643.jpg HPIM1644.jpg

I had them add a few things & it was after 1:30 when we left the dealership. Got just to the south edge of DM, in a construction area where they were tearing out a lane. The car in front of me jigged over & I didn't have time to miss the nearly bowling ball sized chunk of concrete with a piece of rebar sticking out of it! Ruined the right front tire, I got off the road OK & fortunately for me, the Iowa DOT job supervisor saw it happen! He picked up the chunk, then came to check that we were OK. Then he went for the construction foreman, when the foreman finally arrived, he shrugged & asked what he was "supposed to do about it". I told him the chunk had obviously fallen off one of his trucks & his company was responsible. He made a phone call & came back with an entirely different attitude! I'm sure he called his boss & was told to take care of it! He checked the tire brand & size, called a tire shop & after 2-1/2 hours setting beside I 35, we were on our way with a new tire paid for by the construction company!

I've talked to our area dealer & a new rim is on order, to be paid for by the construction company. And an email commending the DOT supervisor has been sent to IA DOT & acknowledged.

Nice looking truck... glad no one was hurt or the truck severely damaged.

Will you be towing with it?

Yes, I have three trailers, a 4' x 8' Snowco, 6-1/4' x 10' & 7' x 16' Woodworths. I've taken the 16' to the farm twice already with the JD 790 w/5' Woods finish mower. Pickup is rated for 9600#, my biggest load is around 7K#. Haul the Gator on the 10' quite a bit & loads to tractor shows through the summer, sometimes with the Snowco behind the 16'. HPIM3116.JPG The 1953 40S will be going to shows this year, need to finish the paint job! HPIM3272.JPG

I have a 2005 Dodge 2500 Cummins with 120000 miles on it. Body totally shot from the winters in Ohio. I started looking for a different truck. Used diesels are priced unreal. I decided to fix mine. It runs great, pulls like a locomotive, and can get 20 mpg on the highway, hand calculated. I took the money I had for a down payment and got a 2009 bed, new rocker panels and cab corners, one front fender, and a rear bumper. Looks almost new, and I have no monthly payment. Just picked it up last Wednesday.

This is how far it was torn down.

Good looking truck...

We have the opposite problem... bodies like new, vehicles run well, but the darn computer throws a code which can cost a bundle chasing or no tags for you.

I've got a 96 F150 4wd, long bed super cab with like new body AND bed... original paint, runs well... 5 spd with 300 six... darn check engine light comes and goes...

In California we have to pass smog from year model 1976 up... my vehicles are older than all the smog mechanics!

Often wondered if other States go back 40 years on emissions testing?

Rust is the enemy.

What did it end up costing total for the repairs with a paint job?

Thankfully we don't have rust here in the south like the north has it. What we do have a lot of is deer and sooner or later you're going to hit one or ones going to run into you. Insurance companies love to total older trucks like yours, turn around and sell them at some auction and someone puts a few thousand into the repairs the insurance company wouldn't do and they have a nice truck.

Guess you have never been to Indiana or Ohio? I've lived in both. You can't drive 5 miles without see a dead deer along the highway.

A deer did in my 99 F350 about 5 years ago. I hit one in my 03 Ram 2500 also and did about 5 grand in damages. Same for our 04 Mercury Mountaineer.

It was just as bad when I lived in Iowa.

The truck prices these days make me *happy* to replace the water pump that's weeping in my 1995 Chevy.
That or get my 1948 Dodge restored. =)

I have a 2003 Dodge 2500 with the Hemi. Over 120,000 miles never been tuned up. Still gets the job done. Still has original battery and starts every time. Needs a little body work. Pulls a two horse Featherlite with ease.

never been tuned up.

you should replace the spark plugs. The computer is making it all work, but the electrodes on those plugs must barely even exist. I bet your mileage jumps by a couple mpg.

We have a Charger, also with a Hemi. 16 plugs in that dang thing.........

You should be on your 4th set of plugs by now if you went by the factory 30K change interval. I've seen people push it, but 40-45K is about the limit on factory copper plugs in a Hemi.

Not only that but not changing plugs makes the coil sticks work harder leading to premature failure.
