3ph quick hitch rundown (cat 1)

With slop you are beating your implement pins up and your quick hitch. With slop it would make it tough to grade because the implement could move freely.

Not sure I agree with slop making it difficult to grade. There are many other points that move so significantly with a 3 point hitch (and the tractor over rough terrain for that matter) I'm skeptical you'd notice movement at the pins. Plus there's no down pressure so any vertical movement won't come into play - either there's slop at the quick hitch or it would lift the arms. IMO not a noticeable difference.

Point taken on slop wearing things out more quickly. On something like a land plane or box blade, larger pins or adapters would be prudent. However, on a york rake, chipper, mower, etc I don't think it's required. FWIW I have larger pins on my weight box and box blade since those are heavy and subject to hard use. No adapters on york rake, grader blade (rarely used), chipper, PTO Saw, or bushhog. Some of those implements are borrowed and shared amongst different machines, some without a quick hitch so I can't enlarge the pins. But I personally haven't had an issue.

If you have the option to store your 3-pt implements on dollies, that greatly simplifies the procedure

Storing implements on the flat, using dollies will definitely make it easier.

The REAL secret is to store all of your 3pt implements on moving dollies.

I have a slab, Quick Hitch and all my implements on Dollies.

I ended up building roll-around dollies for my implements -- except for the ballast box.

OK, guys, what's the secret?

I bought the largest in the store (12 inches), tried it on hard packed gravel and on concrete. It didn't make it any easier to move the implement.

What am I doing wrong?

The white ones are for sand. You wanted the pink ones for gravel :)

The cheap paper dollies aren't worth it, you need to use linen dollies.

I agree with the linen ones but can't decide if its better to buy them or use ones from a rental company....

Stopped at my local JD dealer today for parts for my lawnmower so I inquired about price for the imatch. They asked for what tractor, so I told them my B3300. They said it wouldn't likely fit but needed the Kubota part number to cross reference with and measurements of the pins, arms, spacing, blah blah blah. I told them its a Cat 1 hitch, simple as that. Nope, never did get a price from them they spent more time arguing with me that it wouldn't fit than it would have taken them to look up the price. Yet one more reason I'm glad I bought a Kubota. Kubota dealer said he has a truck in my neighbourhood next week and would drop one off for me if I'd like. $420 plus tax.

Quite the difference in service.

You did the wrong thing by telling the JD dealer it was for a Kubota you should have told them you had a John Deere 2720:D

What is the quick hitch the Kubota dealer can get you for $420?

I see you've come into close proximity to John Deere customer service as well. Smile. Since I could not look up the new Frontier BB4284H commercial box scraper on Deere's ag site, or construction site, or even on Deere's residential site, I called John Deere to get the part number of the scarifiers the Frontier BB4284H commercial box blade uses.

Brian, a very nice customer service person, pleasantly asked what tractor I have so he could look up the Frontier BB4284H scarifier part number.

"Sure, I have the Frontier BB4284H box scraper mounted on a Kioti NX6010," I said.

"Kioti tractors are orange," I offered helpfully.

Dead silence.

"A what?" Brian asked after a moment.

Since I was on my speaker phone at my local watering hole, a couple of patrons across the bar started paying attention to my conversation.

"I have the Frontier BB4284H attached to a Kioti tractor," I repeated.

"I don't see how that will help me look up the part you need for your box scraper," Brian told me.

Agreeing, I sheepishly said, "Me either, Brian--but you did ask what tractor I had the BB4284H attached to so you could look up the part number I need."

The guys on the other side of the bar started laughing at this point.

Anyway, Brian was very helpful in the end and got me the part numbers, but the process taught me how my local dealer said he couldn't look up the parts unless he has the part number already.

To my eye the Land Pride looks dead to rights like it is made by SpeeCo. I've seen the iMatch Cat2 next to my Cat2 SpeeCo and the Deere iMatch didn't look as heavy. The iMatch did look green.

A hydraulic top link makes a Quick Hitch the best thing since buttered bread: tip in the top and hook in, pull the top link in and latch onto the bottom 3 point lugs. Flip the locking levers and you're done.

Take a look at the LP quick hitch again, it is different from a speeco. QH20 Series Quick-Hitches | Land Pride

You can leave the latches in the locked position and back under the implement and pick up. They are spring loaded.

With out the bushing you have a 1/2'' of slop in the lift arm pins. If you have a blade on the tractor that extends 2' beyond the Qh you will have 1'' of movement at the end of the blade.

For a non draft implement like your chipper running with out bushings is not that big of a deal.

You don't have to use these style bushings on most implements.NorTrac Quick-Hitch Bushing Set — Fits Category 1 Hitches | 3-Point Hitch Adapters| Northern Tool + Equipment

You can use the Cat 1 to Cat 2 and the Cat 2 to Cat 3 bushings. Then on something that is borrowed or not used frequently you can easily take them off.

Not sure if you meant to imply that the latches on a SpeeCo aren't spring-loaded and one cant leave them in the locked position and back under the implement and pick up ... but if you did, I can tell you that on my SpeeCo QH they are (spring-loaded) and you can (leave the latches in the locked position and back under the implement and pick up)

The hardware looks like it may be different (or just painted on the SpeeCo), but the overall shape looks, to my eye, identical. I guess I'd need to see a direct side by side comparison to agree with your conclusion.

That said, I didn't appreciate that the springs on the locking tabs are soft enough to push out of the way when hooking up. Thanks!
