Ford 917A Flail bearing housings

One of the bearing housings that hold the roller busted out. Got new ones and bearings and snap rings. This looks like a pretty straight forward replacement (as long as I can get it lifted and positioned right). Have not done this before so any advice is most appreciated. Don't have a tool to handle that type of snap ring...hows that work...get one end started, use pliers and then knock em in?

GOD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The NAPA snap ring tool set has an inner and outer snap ring pins
and is not very expensive so there is no need to plier handle a good
snap ring as the ring will be damaged if you try to use a set of pliers..

I've installed and removed a LOT of snap rings with pliers/screwdriver. Just don't force it to the point of bending the snap ring. After you remove it, lay it on a smooth surface. If it lays flat, it's fine.

If you ruin it I think it would be easy to replace at any AG equipment dealership.

In the case of these particular snap rings, I don't quite see the purpose?? The roller is captured by the bearing housings and can't move laterally. The bearing housings can't move outward because of the casting in the bearing housings.

But if you got 'em, use 'em.
