70 out this AM. That big storm Buppies went through must have made it up here too. I did a road trip yesterday and missed it all. Noticed a lot of leaves in the yard this AM. Just noticed the front storm door on the house is missing too! Hey, I don't go out that way. LOL.

Happy b-Day Ron, Happy Anniversary farmer. RS, I need your help splitting some huge maples I had taken down. I think I got you beat on one trunk size. I'll go measure this AM so I can have some bragging rights!

Have a great day all. The weekend is upon us. Please remember to relax and hydrate. Be safe.

74 this morning and headed to 87 today. Nice cool down but comes at a price. Flash Flood Watch has already been issued. Multiple rounds of storms over next 24-36 hours. Additional 1-3 inches of rain. Grounds already saturated.

Interesting day yesterday. Storm pops up and moves through. Nothing severe but a healthy storm. MIL calls saying she just had a lightning strike. Generator for chickens is running. (She has as many chickens as I do). Knows there's 3 dead cows. Well after a final check the chickens are fine and looks like the generator started because the transfer switch shut down the surge. And the only casualties were the three old cows. In a separate field with about 5 more getting ready for market. So atleast it wasn't the whole herd of about 75. Insurance company doesn't believe the lightning wants veterinarian confirmation. Vet confirms. Yep lightning.

Thanks guys. The anniversary went well, well except for the story above and one below. Had a nice movie. Was late for the showing of Furious 7 so settled for San Andreas. Which turned out to be a good thriller. And didn't regret seeing the movie. As it gets one thinking. Was not impressed by the 3-d. Couldn't see no difference in movie with or without glasses. Then to a nice steak dinner (ironic hu). Won't tell where but steaks where cold and weren't real good. Usually like that place. Oh well tables all around us saying the same thing. Service sucked over an hour for a baked potato and steak. I could have cooked faster. In the end we enjoyed our night out by ourselves.

Still haven't decided on today's agenda. But I think a nap is in my future. Especially if we get these rains.

If money was no object, I'd probably look at the tarps truckers that run flatbeds use ... I'd imagine those are pretty heavy and durable.

You may be onto something. Last fall, a friend was cleaning out his garage and gave me one of those canvas tarps. Even delivered it, and wrapped up the bead blaster that lives under the back porch cover for me. Used plenty of bungee cords and ratchet straps, it stayed in place without flapping, and came through what few storms we had with flying colors. It'll go back on in the fall, so we'll see how well it does the second time around.

We're lucky to have a small shop that custom makes those tarps. In the county. While not being cheap they are supposed to be very durable. A lot better than the cheapies the stores have.

Happy Anniversary Farmer, and Happy Birthday Ron!

My wife's uncle passed away from a long bout with cancer on Tuesday. He is in a much better place now. We are going to a funeral service this morning about 105 miles away.

It is moist as mayo down here when the sun comes out.

Good Morning. 0735, sunny, 78F with 90% humidity. Forecast high of 93F with 0% chance of rain today, and a low of 76F tonight. Looks like another hot one. I had planned to be in the garden by now, but the internet. . . . . Did get my melons planted and peppers transplanted about dark yesterday. There was a good breeze, so it wasn't too bad.

Happy birthday Ron.

No hot sun today, ideal weather for me to make a start on pointing the house. I have been doing this steadily for the last 3 years again. The planning rules that gave me permission to convert the former barn into a house require me to keep the original 200 year old lime mortar. Out in the real world, the mortar between every brick has been taking a battering from the weather for well over 200 years and every bit needs cutting back and replacing, in fact, building control will not sign off the property until it is done. Doing a little each year is classed only as repair, so keeps within the rules and more importantly, gives me a good excuse to take my time.;)

The stories I wrote were in 1718 North Carolina {a few miles from Drew}. I had to learn brick making and the ins and outs of lime mortar. This was a very interesting video I came across during my research. {I couldn't find the one I was looking for using oyster shells, but it's the same process}
