Dang sorry to hear about that & I've been reading that Vermeer rd balers don't have breakdowns.:D

Water(rain) for Coastal sure makes a yield difference from last yrs drought because I baled 12 acres yesterday and got 66(4x5.5) rd bales.

Well over the years Tx Jim my post speak for how me and my Baler been getting along. I'm not over sizing my bales,no way should be breaking belts.
As for the tracking it's better, since I adjusted it,the one on left is still doing it,it's a spliced belt so maybe if I throw a new on it,it will stop tracking up against roller bracket.

Which model baler do you have again? Our 5400 doesn't track the way I'd like it to but after we used all the adjustment on both rollers it does better. But we do have to readjust about once every year as it seams to move no matter how tight it is. But belts do wear out.

Hate it your having break downs but no color is immune from them. One thing though is it's a lot faster to change a bearing on the Vermeer than to change one on our old NH.

Rebel 5410,all my belts are pulling part at the splices. 940bales

I just dropped my belt off and some old ones to make me a spare and there was another 5410 in there not my same model cause all the belts are the same on it,I don't know if that earlier or later model but that same belt was doing it. Me and the service guy looked at it and I showed him,I don't know what they will do for the guy but I pointed it out. It forces hay into the end of that roller and I think that is what starts the cause for the bearing to get hot and go out.

That doesn't sound right. Not arguing. Our belts have over 2k bales on them. May break one next time out but so far so good. I do wonder if maybe it's not the bale size but the tension. If it's set to high it would stress the belts. And the splices are the weak link.

Which roller are you talking about?

Which belts do you have? Our 5400 has 2 wide belts and 2 small twisted belts. I have a buddy with a 5410 and he has 6 small belts. I think. I know his are all the same size just not sure on number.

Sorry to hear about your belt failure. I agree the belts shouldn't be doing that. Do you shed your baler when not in use as sunlight is hard on belts?

I have back the tension off even more and only making a 58" bale, not a 60 to see if it would help and it is still doing it. I have 6 belts,3long and 3shorter by 10"s,all same width.I put a tape on the bales and they are 58" so my monitor isn't off. This last belt if looking from rear 2nd to end on right side, the side that's runs perfect.

TxJim my baler doesn't ever set out and never been rained on. When I'm on rake tractor, the other is parked under shade tree.I never leave it even in pasture over night it goes back to the house in shed. I blow everything out with only air.

I got in after dark in a not so good mood taking baler apart once again(only broke baler nothing on me this time, lol), wife could see the frustrated look on my face with it. Anyways she text me today and it said as much as I hate to admit it,you just need to go buy you a new baler and get rid of that headache, lol.

The SC Drought Committee upgraded us to the first level of drought this past Friday. It has been 3 weeks since we've had a drop of rain. The past two weeks have seen temperature in the upper 90's to lower 100's every, single day. If things don't change, I'm going to have to start feeding hay. It doesn't look good for cutting hay either. We've gotten a few small fields cut before the drought, but that was nothing to write home about. Its okay to feed to cows, but nothing for the horses.

Couple hay farmers are talking about packing it in... might be talk or it might not.

I had about 5000 bales on my 605k and the belts were pretty ratty, had some gouges and holes in them, my dealer said to keep going I listened and put plenty more bales on them before I sold it. It looked bad but still made one **** of a bale. Going to try my new 450 utility again tomorrow the first 10 bales I did as a test came out good. Now to do another 30 acres then cut some more.

No matter what color they are they can be a headache at times.

Foreman, are you running a pressure gauge on yours ? Might be running tighter than you think

Foreman. Backing the bale size down on the monitor does nothing for the density. The density on a rebel is controlled by an arm under the side door. It has a screw knob on it for the adjustment. But I'm sure you know that. The newer 5420 & 5520's run a pressure gauge option for bale density the older ones 5400 & 5410 do not. To my knowledge.
