see where the gas ate the paint off the cab. the gas back in the day never ate paint.
Yeah. The nice thing is, they make new metal for those old trucks, so if you're inclined, you can restore it fairly reasonably.

Any pictures? No fair posting about a cool old truck and leaving us wondering :D
I actually misidentified the vehicle looking at the front end. This is what we are restoring. My grandpa and I are working on it. The truck and the suburban have the same frame and front end. a image-1902222958.jpg image-581384684.jpg image-2238661056.jpg We found a 1965 truck that somebody had started restoring. They put disk brakes, power steering, new inner fenders, and new floor pans. We bought the truck and are going to remove all of that and put it on the suburban. The plan is to put the truck back together with the suburban parts and sell it, but my grandpa will never put it back together. He will store it in his shop until he dies.

That reminds me if my high school panel truck. Except I had no windows on the back sides and I had 3 on the tree.

Yeah, used ones are insane! I am considering replacing my 2004 truck. Since I been driving a car the last 6 years for the majority of my transportation, I only use the truck about 5k a year. I thought, why not a used one?
All I can find is 3-5 year old trucks, 50k plus miles, for $27-30,000- speced the same as a new model that I can buy for $33-36000.

Yep. I was in the same position here. Anything (diesel primarily) with under 100k miles, not a stripped work truck and seemed to be in decent condition was greater than $30k. Drove a nice 2012 GMC 2500 diesel with ~ 40k miles for $40k and they would not come off the price much. So after much investigation including driving a lot of targeted trucks, a local RAM dealer got me a new 2500 diesel, crew cab, Ram Horn, fairly loaded with all of my options, including goose neck/5th wheel package, running lights, right color (silver), wheel to wheel side bars, etc., etc. from a NC dealer last Tuesday. I now have a much stronger, far more capable truck for $9k over a HD 1/2 ton.

I found myself in a similar position two years ago when looking for tractors and implements. Purchased all new for similar reasoning.

BTW: The difference in out the door price between my new truck and a new, nicely equipped HD 1/2 ton: GMC, Chevy or Ford Eco Boost was basically the price of the diesel engine package for mine.

US Auto loans are now over $900b. That's not a misprint. The average amount financed on a new vehicle is now over $27k.

I guess some of us are old school... save and pay cash.

Not saying it might not make sense to use special offers and such... if buying new.

Saying I'm payment adverse would be an understatement!

Having either saved or borrowed for a new vehicle that can get them from A to B on a magic carpet ride of new bells and whistles, covering the same distance as the old clunker owned by jimbob down the road, the new auto buyer experiences hitherto greater events along the way that jimbob will never get to experience:

If you have a Chrysler product there is an update that patches the hack ability. You can update yourself or have the dealer do it. Just updated my 2013.

Just ordered a new RAM 2500 crew cab short bed fully loaded. My dad told me his first house cost less then my truck. I'm hoping to keep this one for a long time as long as I don't have too many problems with it down the road.
