When reading about the radial arm saw it reminded me of someone I know that put a 12 volt power window motor on his just to move the saw back and forth. Maybe just a little lazy. He also mounted one on his table saw to turn the wheel handle to tilt the saw to 45 degrees and back. I thought that might be useful. I plan to use a power window motor to raise and lower the table on my drill press.

yeah that's a cool idea...it would be easy to regulate the voltage to it for slower speeds too at 12v

How do you guys manage to use wood templates without burning them? Do you just trace them and then freehand follow the lines?

When I've tried, I either burn the template or my cut is too inconsistent for my liking, especially when trying to make matching parts.

I use 1/4in hardboard, I run the plasma cutter right along the edge of the wood. yes it can burn a bit if you do multiple cuts. but I have templates I've used over and over for years. watch the start of this video where i'm making some augers.

You made that look easy...the cutting part. Perhaps I just need to learn how to use my plasma cutter better. I was also using plywood, don't know if that made the difference or not.

hard to say, i find the hardboard is easy to smooth out nice, so maybe the plywood is holding you back. the nicer the template the nicer the cut
