My 07 2500 HD was purchased last year with 92K miles. I average 11 to 12 around town. Pulling anything it is in the 10 to 11 range. Last month I pulled a 14' box trailer and I saw 8.5 MPG. Good truck and no issues.
I have a 2008 ext.cab long box 4x4 3/4 ton 6lt. worst mileage it's ever got was this summer when it was real hot out pulling a 9,000 lb. trailer 10.75 mpg. best I've ever got on a trip empty was 19 mpg. That's with 7.2 rear end
6 speed auto.
My conclusion is that working trucks drink gas, no matter the brand.
If a loaded semi truck can get 7 to 9 MPG, why can't a pickup get significantly better than that?
With desiels it is better. Gas semi might get 2 miles a gallon.![]()
I had a late 70's GMC 3/4 ton with some funky custom rear end and HEAVY rear springs that was a refugee from the RV towing industry. It had a 454. It got 8mpg. Loaded. Empty. Downhill. Uphill. It got 8. Even back then, I cringed when I had to drive it any distance.![]()
