My 07 2500 HD was purchased last year with 92K miles. I average 11 to 12 around town. Pulling anything it is in the 10 to 11 range. Last month I pulled a 14' box trailer and I saw 8.5 MPG. Good truck and no issues.

I know you asked for the GM 6.0 but since I own a similar Ford F250 I thought I would throw mine in there. Brand new '15 F250 ext. cab. 4x4 6.2L with a service body bed (pipe rack and full toolboxes) I got 10.7 mpg on my last tank. I knew it would be bad when i bought it just not that bad. I'm hoping it will inch up and get about 13 mpg. The service body weighs about 1K but doesn't stick out past the truck like some. The pipe rack I'm sure knocks it down a little.

My conclusion is that working trucks drink gas, no matter the brand.

I had a late 70's GMC 3/4 ton with some funky custom rear end and HEAVY rear springs that was a refugee from the RV towing industry. It had a 454. It got 8mpg. Loaded. Empty. Downhill. Uphill. It got 8. Even back then, I cringed when I had to drive it any distance.

With desiels it is better. Gas semi might get 2 miles a gallon.
Good point. But even heavy duty pickup diesels don't get very good mileage compared relatively to a 65,000 lb semi.

Does seem goofy. Semi truck fuel economy has gone up at least 25%, on average, in the last 15 years. Yet the pickups, irregardless of engine, seem to be stuck in the last century. It is truly sad, when the 6.0L in my 2015 2500 averages, for all miles, no better than the 454 big block I had in my '98 2500. It averaged between 13 and 14 mpg. They have a lot of these pickups set up now to be rolling carpeted living rooms with home theatre systems and wifi capability. if they would apply some of their brain wave activity to the motors and drivetrains, we might have better mpg numbers today. It is truly sad that my semi truck has a lifetime mpg average of almost 8 mpg, empty and loaded combined, and my pickup lifetime average mpg is only 14. Especially when one considers, just on empty weight, my semi and trailer weigh in at almost 5 times the weight of my empty pickup.

I also had a 77 Silverado with a 454 2 wheel drive. Like yours about 8-10 mpg, loaded/unloaded, air cond on /off, uphill/downhill didn't matter. But man did it have power, I could gain speed on ANY hill with my 30' fifth wheel and a atv trailer behind that.:thumbsup:
