It's 1894, found the numbers and all on bottom of reciever. I asked my 9 yr old son, what year do you think this gun was made? "1998" 104 years off...

Edit: next to the date (1894) there is what looks like a "C" in a circle and at the front there is a serial number that matches the barrel (meaning it was marked by the Finns) and a small circle with a "P" in it with a dot or star over the P.

The bottom of the barrel has a "T" in a triangle

So, you pointed out something that was on my mind last night. I'm pre-1898; and technically it's an "antique" not a "firearm", no FFL, pretty sure felons can own it, ect; or am I off base? Could I trim it down a few inches and have a legal SBR antique?

This research and all has proved intresting;
I started with a rusty cut up $89 gun that I might have left in the dumpster; mildly interested

Next, I think I've got 90% of a now $200 gun, and with PB Blaster I get action moving; more interested

Then, with some research find its Finnish; pretty cool

Realize it's a Belgian barrel, made in **** occupied territory, supplied to Axis ally Finland for the Continuation War; very cool

Take it apart and find receiver has made in 1894 for Czarist Russia; awesome

Find the Circle C and P marks, and discover it's made in France by Chatellerault; aww man, made in France...

AFAIK, the m39 when re dated, even on an antique rcvr were 'new guns'

And old m91 antique is just that.. and antique.

I can't help you any on the legalities of who can or can't own an antique arm.. ( too many state rules and then federal codes, and while I have an idea.. .. I'll leave it up to someone else who knows for sure ).

I believe you cannot make it into an SBR for a couple reasons, and again.. I may be wrong, but here is why I think you cannot do it without a form 1? SBR

1, I know C&R guns loose their C&R status if they are modified from original condition ( as issued ), if that modification was not also done ( 50ys prev ).. that might make me think the same on an antique loosing it's status.

2, also.. it fires obtainable fixed cartridge ammo.. I DO believe you could get away with something that would otherwise be NFA, if it used a primitive ignition system, like a muzzle loading flintlock/percussion gun.

That and 4$ will get you expensive coffee at starbucks, soo.. sorry.. no help. I simply don't think it will work, but yet don't know all the rules and regs to quote you ..

Ok, not a big deal. I just know that 1898 is a magic date with firearms, and all. Still cool to have and I'm still going to explore the possibility of putting a barrel on it. I was looking at a map dated 1894, just to kinda get an idea what the world looked like then. More then a few minor changes from that map.

That's part of the 'cool' of old guns.

Heck, the US flag had 44 stars at the time
