Edit: what do y'all expect to pay for an FFL transfer and any required background. I'm guessing $25, or is that wishful thinking?

rates vary.. usually 20-35$ around here, with subsequent guns on the same 4473 costing less than the first, IE.. if primary was 35, subsequent may be 25 up to 4, etc.. Mind you you may get hit for 5-8$ of call in fee to.. so I'd take a fifty with ya to the xfer dealer.

PS.. this is a great reason to get a C&R if you intend to collect more C&R guns. As little as one transfer can pay for the 3year license

Barreled receivers don't count as C&R. Only full unaltered guns qualify.

Most places around here charge $25.

he's using a transfer dealer, so that doesn't factor in on the bbld action issue.

So, having never used Gunbroker before; the seller emailed with all his info, and I need to either do a "Postal Money Order" or a PayPal 'Gift'. He very specifically said if I want to do PayPay, it can't mention a sale of any kinda, and can only be processed as a Gift. Does any of that sound fishy or off.

As a side note, do to their registration requirements for Emails (if you sign up with a free email, you have to pay a dollar or two, to prevent trolls) I used my work email. When I tried to open it for work lap top, it popped right up with "warning, no access allowed to websites promoting fire arms sale". You'd have thought I signed into the ISIS homepage.... I know it's their computer, so it's their right, but

PayPal prohibits firearms transactions, so some people call them something else.

Yup, no paypal for guns, so you see people ask for discreet paypal gifts.

Also, by saying paypal gift, only you pay fees. If you say paypal for an invoice or service, both you and he pay fees. I see that on gunbroker often.. but few GB's take paypal anymore.

As for the 1$ thing... that's been like that for years. It charges you a dollar to authenticate your acount. matters not if it's free email.

I've had my same AT&T email addy since 1990 ;) and when I got on GB I got charged a dollar as well.

Your seller will need your xfer dealers FFL file copy.

Ok, I'm running into a minor snag. I've found about a dozen guys who do FFL transfer, but so far I've had about 6 say they will only deal with another FFL, not an individual on the sellers side. Is that normal? Is it the law? Couple haven't mentioned anything about requiring the seller to use an FFL as well. I've seen on GB several ads that state if the seller hast to ship from an FFL, it cost an additional $25-35. I kinda hate to ask the guys who didn't bring it up; and I'll have to have them snail mail the FFL, as seller has no fax, and all but one FFL has said out right they will Not email. One says he's OK emailing, but only to another FFL.

I ran around this afternoon to only find out its a holiday, so, no bank to cash a check, and no USPS for a postal money order.

the following made me think he was considering a C&R to avoid future bbld actions fees.

Well, I've got a 1943 Izhevsk barreled receiver coming. I really was hoping for a prewar barrel but the timing was right, and price wasn't too wrong, $68, plus $12 shipping, plus I have to pay an FFL. Which has me thinking, maybe I should get my C&R again, with the DVD Dragunov hitting the 50 year mark (1963).

From reading the thread, he got the bbld action to utilize some exting parts. I havnt read anything that makes me think he's going to be trying to collect bbld actions.

It's just the once off right now. I'd like to save a few bucks, get a decent shooter, and also, orginally, 'build' the gun. Now, I'm simply gonna drop my bolt, trigger, magazine, etc into a free stock and the barreled action.

Long term, I would love to pick up a Kar-98, and maybe a TT-33, and a VIS-35; but my spare money jingles, not folds...
