I got a response from the neighbors. Thanking me for leaving the trees between orchard edge and property line and acknowledging the property line markings that I made. He suggested marking the corners with metal fence posts since the last survey used flimsy pins. Said he purchased some last year but never put them in. I will offer to help put them in. That keeps us both satisfied as to their veracity.

It's hard reading some of the replies in these "neighbor" threads. Some of us are fortunate for "good" people living nearby, others not so much.

Good going...sometimes a rational approach is the best. Now you won't have the aggravation of living next to a hostile neighbor.

I think that they understand that I am going to do what I have set out to do. And that they don't have a part in the decision making process. But that I am also being considerate but won't be taken advantage of.
Establishing clear boundaries is important. I had assumed that they would never question my plans since they involved my land and not theirs. Their background is different than mine so the frame of reference is probably different as well. I'm hopeful that this will smooth things thru and they will realize this isn't a bad thing. I'd prefer not having to bother with it but if the choice is to spend a bit of time on diplomacy vs having neighbors who hate you and complain all the time, then I will make the effort.
