Kevin Stack was walking to dinner with his young son in northeastern Los Angeles when he was stopped in his tracks by what he thought was an especially intense light from a police helicopter - except that it was completely silent.

"It intensified then shot across the dark sky, leaving a green trail," said Stack, 41. "Then it fizzled and appeared like a dying dot on an old television screen."

Stack's 5-year-old son, Blackstone, was under no illusions about what he had just seen.

"It was an alien," Blackstone said.

Not quite, said Cmdr. Ryan Perry, a Navy spokesman. Navy Strategic Systems Programs conducted a missile test at sea from the USS Kentucky, a ballistic missile submarine, Perry said in a statement.

And what of the sky above Cape Town yesterday?

If the lights seen on Saturday night in Los Angeles weren't enough, another brilliant show was seen in the skies above Cape Town, South Africa the next day. Residents of Cape Town saw brilliant and beautiful cloud formations in the daytime sky on Sunday. Just like Los Angelenos, some compared what they saw to UFOs.

"There were just these massive UFO type clouds and they became more defined as time passed," said Monique Jackson.

They are in fact lenticular clouds, according to CNN meteorologist Derek Van Dam.

The same cannot be said for Derek Van Dam (and his ilk!) as it is a known fact that the "science" of meteorology is nothing but 'guess work' at best and, by their own admission. only a "prediction".
