Been a frustrating day.
Cell phone has not been charging the last 2 days, this morning while "working" on it, the pins inside the USB connector bent, so now there's no way it is going to charge.
Went in to Costco to get new front tires on my honda (297K miles), was a 2.5 hr wait they said, which turned out to be over 3 hrs. While there, went to the phone kiosk. They said, no problem, you can get a "free" upgrade, just pay the activation fee and you can keep your plan, just have to sign 2 yr contract. I said as long as I can keep my current plan (which is one of the old UNLIMITED data plans) I'll buy the phone. I ended up choosing the Samsung S6, so it was $100 more. So I get the slip, and have to go pay at the regular register. They are all backed up with people with overflowing carts full of stuff, asked the guy maning the self checkouts could do it, but he wouldn't/couldn't, so back in line behind even more people. Get it paid, have to go to pickup to get the phone. Had to wait for someone to come work the pickup desk. So I finally get the phone, and he walks the phone back to the verizon kiosk for it to be activated. Guess they don't trust us to walk it over, because he had to carry it over. So the lady at the kiosk starts to activate my service, then says uh oh. I can't keep my existing plan with the new phone. So I said, no deal. She now has to walk the phone back to the pickup desk, and I get refunded my money. I asked if I could just outright pay the full price for the phone and she said no.
While at costco, I also asked about a new hearing aid for my son, who lost one of his. $1300 for one hearing aid, $2600 for a pair. They don't have the exact same model as his existing. this is with the bluetooth feature, and may not work right with his existing bluetooth one. That's the same price I can get it from his audiologist, so costco hearing aid won't be cheaper, but more convenient.
Back at the tire shop, they wanted to show me my "good" back tires, seems they are cupping real bad on the inside. outsides look brand new. Plenty of rubber, so I said I will use them until they get worn down. So that was over 3 hrs at costco.
Went to pick up a bite of food at checkers, and the line of cars was out onto the street. waited just a little, no movement in the line, so I left and went to the oil quick change, as the honda was overdue for that. Got right in there. When they asked me about my tires I told them to not check them as I had just left the tire shop. (last time I was there with my other honda, they deflated my tires to the point the low tire indicator came on as soon as I left the place). They now have a camera/monitor setup that shows the underside of the car as you sit there. I saw them add oil, they had me start the car for a bit, then turn off to check the oil. after that I noticed the guy on the monitor working under my car. turns out they added new oil without draining the old oil, so I ran my vehicle for about a minute with way too much oil in it. so after they drained the oil, they added more oil, told me to start it up. They guy actually admitted they forgot to drain the oil. they never did recheck the oil level...
Lunch at a different place went much better, then I came home.
Tried to make a long distance call on my home phone, I get a message I don't have service. My past long distance provider, sprint, is no longer offering home phone long distance service, and they dropped me last week. Last sunday I switched my long distance to ATT. From an email, they said I was good to go, but I still got a sprint message. Called ATT, had them check into it, they said it takes up to 10 days for them to make the switch. I told them the email said if was ready, but apparently not.
Some time around then, my son came home from school, and mentioned it was friday the 13th.
Now I understand.
