Squirrels vs Deer -- road warrior smarts

I worked in NZ in the winter of 97, and the number of animals we killed at night was staggering. Literally one or more possums or rat looking things every kilometer. It was gruesome at first and then it got kind of funny... Worse was they often traveled in packs and you would hit multiples at once.

Come on back and have another go at them. The possums are breading faster than we are running over them.

Those deer whistles never worked for me. By the time I stopped the car and got out to blow the whistle the deer was gone.

Back when deer whistles first came out one of the firemen in my department put a set on his car. A few days later a large buck ran out in the road and stoped, lowered his head and charged the grill. Deer died and the car had to have a good bit of work done to it. Anyone heard of this before? Ed

I have heard of Moose charging vehicles, I've never seen it but anytime after the first hard frost is when the rut will start and IF you were to blow your horn at a bull moose, it is likely that he will charge.

May not have anything to do with the whistle. -- I had a deer ram the side of my car. He broke from woods about 50' to the side as I was going by, and ran into the rear quarter panel with no apparent slowing. ... No whistles.

That could be true, just the only time we ever heard of a deer charging a car quite like that. Ed
