Please get back to us with the time line where the diesel costs less to operate given the different purchase prices. You don't even have to count the jugs of fuel anti gel additive and replacement fuel filters that cost the diesel extra.
Now why would I do that? I never said it was less expensive to maintain, or purchase fuel (although it could be depend on where you live). What I said was- it gets good fuel mileage.
Since you're a ford person maybe you could explain this-how would a F150 Platinum or King Ranch pay for itself compare to an F150XL. The XL can do the same amount of work (or more) and cost $12000 to $20000 less. In my opinion it can't, yet people still buy the King Ranch and Platinum? Last I checked the GM Canyon/Colorado diesel is an option just like Ford's F150 King Ranch and Platinum models. BTW Ford analogy also applies to all vehicle manufactures, I just used Ford.
I'm guessing it's just too difficult to say, "to each his own" and be done with it.
