Please get back to us with the time line where the diesel costs less to operate given the different purchase prices. You don't even have to count the jugs of fuel anti gel additive and replacement fuel filters that cost the diesel extra.

Now why would I do that? I never said it was less expensive to maintain, or purchase fuel (although it could be depend on where you live). What I said was- it gets good fuel mileage.
Since you're a ford person maybe you could explain this-how would a F150 Platinum or King Ranch pay for itself compare to an F150XL. The XL can do the same amount of work (or more) and cost $12000 to $20000 less. In my opinion it can't, yet people still buy the King Ranch and Platinum? Last I checked the GM Canyon/Colorado diesel is an option just like Ford's F150 King Ranch and Platinum models. BTW Ford analogy also applies to all vehicle manufactures, I just used Ford.
I'm guessing it's just too difficult to say, "to each his own" and be done with it.

Sometimes people just like what they like. And if they like diesel, they should drive a diesel. Same for gas. I'm not weighing in one way or the other, but an operating cost is not the driving force for everyone.

Right on!

Torque is what gets you up to speed quickly and horsepower is what keeps you there.

Ding, ding, ding.... This is where these new diesels are lacking in 1/2 tons and smaller except for the Cummins powered Titan.

Guess transmissions and gearing is just a none issue?

Correction on the HP and torque with the 3rd world VM Motori diesel in the Ram. 240HP and 420lb ft .
You can gear reduction a 1HP motor to 1000lb ft of torque . That "must be" better for pulling than the V6 gas engine with only 269lb ft ?

Now you are just being obtuse.

Anyone know where the new duramax diesel came from. In a Chevy YouTube about the new diesel Colorado the head of the program for chev makes reference to being developed from a Malaysia engine. HS

I have taken some very close looks at the new 2.8L Dmax in the Colorado/Canyon platform and it is so strikingly similar to the VM 2.8L diesel that was in my 2006 Jeep Liberty it is hard for all but the most savvy engine person to tell the difference. Same wet sleeved cast iron block with aluminum head with DOHC, same timing belt, same water cooled EGR setup. The only difference seems to be a Honeywell VG turbo instead of a Garrett VG turbo in the VM, a little more rail pressure, a slight change in compression ratio. And of course, the downstream SCR DPF stuff.

GM owned 50% of VM until they sold their share in 2013. The 2.8L Dmax was already in development, and had made its way into some GM vehicles outside the U.S. The 2.8L Dmax is based on the VM 2.8L, which is a solid motor.

He's always that way, what else is new? He loves to pull with a gas engine that develops torque and power at 4000 rpms. Everybody to their own.

Cruises down the road at the same rpm S the diesel. Down a gear and ups the rpms for hills. Diesels can't do that because they fall flat and run out of power when rev'd. With the exception of the two stroke diesel.
Btw how do you feel about these VM diesels screaming at 3800-4000rpm to make peak HP and 2000rpm for peak torque.

Good luck with your dog in town. My diesel has all the power I need, 450 rwhp and 1000 ft. Lbs. of torque, it never falls flat.
