James that would take pages and still not cover all the possibilities.

How many people have you trained for CCW who use to oppose i, but something happened in their life to change their mind? I sure know a lot and before my son took his present job he worked for a local training academy and had his own small training facility and he trained a LOT, some even in our own family.

I've told this story before, but when I was a 21 year old college student, I felt no need to have a gun in the home until my family became crime victims; haven't been without one since. However, I've never opposed concealed carry and of course until recently it wasn't an option for civilians in our state. I did carry on my job prior prior to that though.

Many. I don't know how many, but quite a few. My wife and I did the Handgun Seminar thing for about 10 years, she got most of the rape victims. It is sad that was the event that changed their minds, but it is what it is.

I'm with Larry. If you don't support CC then don't carry. But don't think it's your responsibility to lobby everyone else against CC.

Disarming the public would do nothing to deter or lessen the damaging effect of crime.

I think this thread has behaved very well so far. A lot of very good information exchanged. Hopefully those that need to inform themselves have gotten something from it.

I doubt you will find many anti gun people here. There are of course a few trolls, but most anti gun city slickers don't hang around tractor forums.

I have always wondered why those that don't feel the need to carry, always seem to have the need to question the needs of those that do. Why not just "not carry" if you don't want to carry? Why do you feel it is wrong for others to carry?
I do not have a weapon, never thought I needed one, in the 58 years on this earth. I never felt I needed one having lived in large urban areas New York City/New Jersey and in the country all my life. I have never felt threatened that I needed one. The folks I know that have them only use them for hunting and do not carry. Living in NJ it is very tough to get a license to carry a weapon. Perhaps that is why I have never felt the need and was not raised as part of my family's culture. I have been on TBN long enough, 13 years, to know folks have different background and idea, that what makes this place fun.

Yes Richard it has been pretty respectful, some of the more contentious anti-gun posters have not shown up as many of us have scars from previous threads. When I was working, I carried every waking moment. Now that I'm retired and have a CCW endorsement, I rarely carry on my person, but try to have one handy. Of course I don't go shopping, "eating out" involves a drive-thru, don't smoke, drink or dance the boogaloo, haven't been to a large city in years and don't go out after dark, so the chances of me ever needing one is even less than the average citizen.

This statement is easy to make and has been made by many in various forms but exactly how would the people in that particular situation have faired much better with a 'few people" armed with side arms in the context of the situation? They were there for a metal band concert so maybe they could have gotten away with different arms than a group going to an opera or something similar. Specifically, going up against 5 people armed with Kalashnikov automatics who have the advantage of shooting at their targets from a balcony, and who have explosives, how would a "few people armed" make much difference?

(Granted, if I had been there I would have wanted to be armed rather than not be. That's not the question.)

.

They would have fared better than not being armed at all.. I don't care what type weapons they had...I'm not just going to sit there and wait my turn.. I can guarantee that much..

Of course we can only run 'what if' scenarios but there are really only 3 possible general categories of the effect of CCW carriers being there: The outcome was the same, the outcome was more positive (less dead), the outcome was worse (more dead).

Outcome was the same:
Not really worth discussing.

Outcome more positive:
These shooters were terrorists and likely a very different mentality than the mass shooters we have seen recently. Most (a lot? a few?) of the mass shooters seem to fold as soon as they come up against a little resistance. Maybe that would have happened here. Maybe the guy with the CCW would have been a crack shot and saved nearly everybody. Maybe he would have simply drawn their fire, been killed, but still saved lives by being a 'bullet magnet'... less bullets that could be used to kill other people. If nothing else a few people shooting back, even if they never hit one of the terrorists, may have significantly slowed them down giving more time/less people killed before the police arrived.

Outcome more negative:
Really the only way for more people to be killed is if the CCW carrier started shooting people as well, likely by shooting at the terrorists and hitting other people instead. Probably everyone in the immediate vicinity of the terrorists were the first to die so the likelihood of a CCW carrier killing someone near them is pretty low. The most likely scenario would be where the CCW people missed and struck someone beyond the terrorist. This would have to happen to a lot of people to be significant in this event. While still tragic a single bystander killed by a CCW carriers bullet would have only made the situation 1.1% worse and that is assuming the bystander wouldn't have been killed by the terrorist anyway.

So, in my mind anyway, much more likely a few CCW's would have positively affected the situation rather than negatively.
