Insulation for shop ceiling

The white metal ceilings look great.

When a crew came out and put a metal roof on our barn, they stacked several panels on saw horses measured and chalk lined for the screws and predrilled the panels.

This was over plywood. Lining up with rafters would be more critical.

Maybe Eddie could clarify, but I think they even have pointed screws that will penetrate liner panel and then screw itself into the wood very easily. I would not nail.

Yes, They make screws for fastening metal panels to wood, no drilling required.

Kenny nailed it again!!! I bought my ceiling metal from and Amish shop near here. They call it liner panel. Has cheaper grade paint with no fading guarantee. Pretty hard to get fading inside a shop. As for hanging it, did mine myself with a $150 drywall lift. Cheapest hired hand I've ever had. My building is 42x50 and I think my metal was around $800. I'm sure it was less than $1000. I'll never touch my ceiling again. And as mentioned looks great. <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/files/rural-living/448771-insulation-shop-ceiling-20150119_181652-1280x720-jpg"/>

I like the Xmas lights and purple people eater hanging from the ceiling.

I'll have to put the lights and stuffed animal in my budget when I build my shop. :) Yours is pretty swanky by the way.

If you ask my wife she'll say I live out here. Do kinda wish I had put a shower in the bathroom.... :)

I'd live out there too....funny, my wife asked if I'm going to build in a place to sleep in the shop. Huh?

I'd be very happy living in a shop. That's what I call a dream home. :)

To give our sidebar discussion relevance to this thread I'll say this. Build a solid building. Insulate it well with a good tight vapor barrier that also eliminates drafts. Then you can heat it with most anything because it's efficient.

Failure to do these things will create a building that you can't stand to be in when cold weather hits. My building is just as comfortable to be in as my house. During Winter storms I have to look out the window to know anything is going on.

Members on here that have good buildings know this. Someone who has never had a good building doesn't fully grasp the above standards. So they shortcut. Then they are never quite satisfied with the results.

Money is usually the driving force. That's why I suggest a metal ceiling and then blow in what you can afford. Add later as money becomes available. :)
