The last couple of years have been SCUBA vacations. Cozumel, Barbados. This June, headed to Cozumel again. Beautiful diving there.

Have you tried Isla Mujeres? Cool little island. Can't beat Belize, either.

Floating down a river in the Rocky Mountains with a fly rod in my hands. Nothing soothes the soul more than clear cold water over ageless river rocks.

Now THAT is a vacation! Spent the better part of my youth fishing the streams and rivers of the Rocky Mountains with a fly rod in my hands!👍

Love to travel to see this beautiful country. I have been to the lower 48 states via car. Took 36 years to see them all, we would spend 3-6 weeks traveling each year, most times during the summer to take my 2 daughters with us. My kids are weird they would rather see different states then go to amusement parks ( we have been to both Diseny parks). I got the travel bug from my parents in 1969 we took a 3 week car trip from NJ to CA saw Yellowstone, Texas, LA, was some trip. I was in Detroit when they landed on the moon. We have been to Italy and England. Also been to most of the Canadian provinces. Hawaii and Alaska are on our list now that we are retired. We would decide during December where we wanted to go, planning takes place in January and February, hotels booked in March travel in the summer. Basically everything east of the Mississippi River was via minivan, everything west was fly to a state an then drive 2000-3000 miles in big loops to get all the stuff. In 2007 we flew to San Diego and drove to Vancouver BC , took us a month, what a trip.

LOVE to drive thru the Rockies. I live out east now, but I used to love to fly to Calgary and then drive to Vancouver. Then I discovered cottage country here in Ontario, and it has been cottaging for me ever since.

What is cottaging?
I'm gonna guess it's like going to the "camp" here.
I did not understand the "camp" before coming here.
I have a friend here in NH who came out here from Colorado 10yrs ago for the summer (she ended up staying). Her brother who lives in Boston invited her to stay at his "camp" for the summer. She brought her tent, sleeping bag etc. Turns out a "camp" up here is a full on building typically with indoor plumbing, electricity, etc. Heck many of the "camps" on the big lakes here are worth millions! Mitt Romney has his "camp" not far away.

For many years......I flew about 35 to 40 weeks per year. Now that I am retired.......if I never get on an airplane again.....that is fine with me. Ideal vacation now......hook up the trailer.....pack up the wife and dogs......head South to see the kids and grandkids. On the way back......find new roads....visit friends......take our time and enjoy life. Love the Oregon Coast......the Redwoods in Calif. and the Olympic Peninsula.

Yeah rent a golf cart... head to the local market buy a small cooler and some beer and explore the island. Some gems to see including a manmade floating island. Check this short video out on Richard Sowa and his dream come true. My wife and I visited him and his place. Just incredible and a very interesting guy! A real treasure.

Over the years vacations have come in many varieties. As a kid, didn't really take any until my family got a camp on a pond in Maine, only an hour from home but still a vacation.
A career in the Army included lots of road trips and ski trips when stationed in Europe. I'm pretty much over road trips at this point.
Early retirement was mostly family oriented road trips and a lot of stay at home as well.
This past year we did 2 family trips, one to Az where we got a big house VRBO for 10 of us and then a TDay trip to Ca staying at SIL's.
2016 could prove very interesting. The end of Mar we fly to Ca, meet friends and do Amtrak (sleeper) across country, 3 days in Wash, DC ending in Ft Lauderdale where we get on a 15 day cruise thru Panama Canal back to Ca and fly home. We had been talking about doing this sometime in the future but wife decided sooner would be better especially as one friend turns 82 this week. This is our first ever cruise.
We had already planned a Danube River cruise with family and friends for Sep. wife decided we should spend the week prior revisiting Berlin which we haven't seen since just after the wall came down. The cruise ends in Budapest so toying with the idea of spending up to a week there. In Berlin, we are doing a home exchange for the first time.
Our dream vacation may be just taking form. Timeline is maybe 5 years out when chances are the fur kids will have passed to puppy heaven and the mortgage will be paid off. The thought is to lease out the main house for about a year and take that time for a leisurely paces trip around the world combining cruises and train to major points of interests (minimal air travel) and spending extended times in those areas using our cottage for home exchanges, which would facilitate having places for family and friends to join us at various times. As I just turned 69, perhaps this will be how I celebrate 75. If nothing else, planning such an adventure will be educational.

Lots of great comments, thanks everyone. I sometimes do the "if I won the lottery what would I do" thing and with all of your comments the list is getting pretty big. I'd love to do European cruises and history tours for sure. And a comprehensive tour of all of Canada and the US. I'd follow the entire NASCAR season one track to the next, and the next year Formula 1 the same way all around the world. I'd take a nature tour of Africa, the Galapagos, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Pacific Islands, the Arctic and Alaska for sure.

Hmmm, seems the list is getting pretty long, better get started. I booked a trip to the 100th anniversary Indianapolis 500 for next year and I think I may also go to a warm place this winter such as Cuba or Florida because they are cheap as dirt and my family goes to both places (my mother and father have a condo in FLA).

Keep em coming folks. This is fun.
