I can absolutely vouch for this unit. <snip>
Just another vote for the Equalizer, I've the 1,400 one also. But since I'm running an F350 dually it's effect was not as dramatic.

However I use my 12K rated trailer for numerous things and finally bought a Sherline tongue weight scale Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale - 2,000-lb Capacity Sherline Tools 5780 to take the guessing out of my balance.

I'll have to admit that after decades of truck loading and driving, where you have to know your weights to protect your wallet, that I also bought the sherline scale and keep it in the pickup. I also printed out a form with all the allowable weights and combination weights to show the weighmaster if I get stopped. When I moved from Oregon to Arizona I was only 100# under gross, never got checked though.

If you add air bags, be careful about your inflation pressure. Many people want to "level" the truck with the bags but then it make the rear suspension too stiff and it becomes a fulcrum resulting in a lot of porposing of the front end.

I have towed a bazillion trailers of all sizes and I have never used nor have I seen anyone at jobsites or whatever use an equalizer hitch. I see a lot of RV folks with them going down the highway but never seen tractor or construction equipment haulers with them. They might work wonders I don't know but they don't seem to be very common outside of the RV world.

I had airbags on my last truck mainly due it sagging from a heavy flatbed, tools, compressor and 90 gallon diesel tank. They do wonders to make the truck level but that doesn't do much to help if your front end is too light.

Look at the tow weight regulations to be legal.

Most people hauling equipment have a truck suited for doing so. The stabilizing hitch seems to be most common for those with half ton trucks but need to haul larger loads only a couple times/year.

That's the case for me. I have a hard enough time squeezing into parking garages in downtown Houston as it is already!

I used a load hitch on the 1500 I had pulling a 18' trailer with about 9,000 lbs total. It really helped with stability.
Having the right balance is very important also.
