I'd really look at that lower end post haste. Might have beat a rod bearing out or 100 other bad things. None of them get better by themselves, they get more expensive when ignored. I'd stop and see if I still had a viable crank... :(

Soundguy is right. Good description of possible maladies -- flattened bearing, bent rod, hard to see cracks, who knows. If it clanks it belongs in the ER.

Is this thread is a good selling point for battery powered tractors, not to mention that battery motors are a lot quieter, just thinking out loud.

And if you get the AGM batteries you don't have to worry about tip over.

Should have been more detailed. The clanking noise came after a minute of running. That and the miss fire which makes me believe that it is the injectors, which was just confirmed from Garden State Diesel. Two of the injectors were bad, which is probably causing un-burnt to build up causing the valves to clatter. Which is exactly what it sounded like. I,ll let you know when i get them back. As for the of the bottom end...that will be done if she sounds anything but perfect after i put the rebuilt injectors in.

Much higher compression on a diesel, so different pitched sound. That's some of it anyway.
Thats why gas is thirsty in comparison.

Hey ! Looks to me like Driveway man has pretty good instincts having finally gotten to a confirmed set of known problems (injectors) and taking one step at a time fixing known problems first without taking stuff apart chasing unknown problems. Probably cooler head than mine would have been under those circumstances. Considerable comfort in having a professional opinion out of Garden State Diesel.

Seems to me finding a cracked head after a rollover with wide open throttle for several minutes there'd be an excellent chance of major damage on the crank, bearings, rods, etc...

Putting a new head on and firing it up again without at least looking at the underside seems foolish, especially given the advice of several folks that have knowledge of these things. What would be the harm of dropping the pan and taking a look. Its not our money, but we'd still hate to see someone spend a considerable amount of money only to have it wasted by something so simple (and FREE) as a look underneath.

Why come to a forum and ask questions and ignore sound advice? :confused3:

I dunno why but it's something I do regularly.

Ha ! I love it troutsqueezer. Also, I think there can be a big difference between "considering advice and doing something else" versus ignoring the advice.
