Being 70, I find I make a lot less mistakes than I used to...I think about things much more before I act.

Of course thinking a lot more gives me less time to do as many things as I used to do, which cut's down on the number of things I can do and screw up !

You described me exactly and I'm only a spry 64...... :)

He just turned 40!

I certainly meant my comment about the older guys in the shop as a positive. Those guys have probably seen it all. I immediately felt like I had known them for years..

Before I went, I envisioned it being some kind of speed shop where they work on hot rods.. Seeing all of the big diesels made my confidence go way up.

I know you were happy with the experience (age) in the shop, I would be also!!

Well one good thing with the old guys, they work with 2 hands the young guys work with one hand because the other hand has one of those little square box in one. Also all day long they can only say can you hear me now.

Very interesting thread! Thanks for posting it.

Hope all turns out well. I don't get here much anymore, but threads like this one make visiting worthwhile...:)

Hope you get the tractor back working for you soon. I will keep your experience in mind next time I get set to drill in unknown territory :D

We pulled the pan tonight, along with the pistons, rods oil pump, filter bracket.. The 46mm socket I bought is too shallow to go on the nut on the crank pulley. My neighbor replaced the seal on his L3450 several years ago and I remembered he bought the socket.

We finish stripping the block tomorrow.. I will be replacing piston #4 and all 4 Rod bearings. The antifreeze had shined up the rod bearings on #4 cylinder.

We'll see how the main bearings look in the morning.

You must be he-man to have punched through the plug, jacket, and piston skirt without noticing.

I say that in jest. I easily could be in your shoes. Not that I am he-man or anything, just the occasional **** luck.

Usually when I do something like this it is because I was dumb enough to answer the phone instead of paying attention.

Those are just extra lube holes in the piston skirt. (a high performance modification)
