It sure is hard finding a used 6 foot bush hog!

If you're still in the market I'm selling a 6' Bush Hog BH 16. It is the medium duty cutter, slip clutch, skids, whole 9 yards. I've used it around 5 times cutting corn stalks. She's clean as a whistle and ready to go. I have a much larger tractor and bush hog I use now so this one sits under the shed. I paid $2100 and if I can get $1700 out of it I'll be happy. PM me if interested.

Little nervous about buying a lighter duty mower, but I will not use it commercially and mostly use it it on tall bahia grass. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

nicer cutters like the Woods that was shown a while back is they have the heavier dity clevis style attachments versus just pins. that the frontier or bush hog have. My medium duty Bush Hog has the clevis style.

Light duty would be fine for what you want to do now, consider your future needs as well.
I don't hesitate to take my BH27 over 15-20ft trees after pushing them over with the loader. I worry more about the skid plates I put on protecting all the hydraulic lines.

Sometimes, you just have to drive a bit to get what you need. While it's a rather far stretch, there's a lot of them around here on CL.

That is a nice unit but you are a bit out of my range. Thanks for the offer!

Well I left messages for the Frontier and never heard back and this morning the listing was removed from Craigslist. Keep on looking!

True, but I also have to consider fuel while towing a trailer and my time, it sure would be nice to find one closer than farther!

I searched for a while and ended up at my local Rhino dealer buying a new 172.
The used ones I could afford looked like they should have been sold by the pound at the scrap yard. The ones that looked decent were 80% to 90% of the cost of a new one.
Very happy with my decision.

That's kind of what I have been finding locally, other people's problems. Looking at Kodiak's, Everything Attachments, heavier duty models. Hoping something turns up locally.

If the deck, blades, PTO shaft, and stump jumper are ok, there's not much involved in swapping out a blown gearbox. I just did it today on a 5'er that was listed on CL for $350 with a good Comer Italian made clutch and shaft included for $320 out the door. $155 bucks got me an Omni 40hp gearbox delivered from Surplus Center, and I have a spare hub now since the old one fit the new output shaft. We had it back together in under 20 minutes.

Output seals on the Bush Hog brand seem to be notorious for failing. Chinese made gearboxes are regarded poorly in every mention I've seen of them, and the parts from Comer are like $400 to rebuild it. Someone put new blades on mine before discovering the box was leaking (oil spot on the deck underneath) and ended up trading it in. I got a working unit that looks better than most used ones on CL for under 5 bills and the important parts are new or close to it. :)

There's not much to these things, and a couple hundred in parts (if you want a bigger gearbox) might get you where you want to be on a blown one. I don't know what the future holds for mine. I want to build a twin rotor heavy duty, so this might be used a couple times and thrown back on CL with some fresh paint and a big price tag. :D

I have a call into these people about this JD Frontier 72" Mower. I already have a Frontier (Woods) 72" finish mower and it is really good. Any thoughts on the Frontier Rotary Mower (I'm assuming Woods)?

Rotary Cutter 6 Ft.

Thanks!

I don't think it's a Woods cutter (although Woods does make implements for Frontier/Deere). Nice cutter though and decent price too. I'd go for it in a heartbeat!
