Doesn't that tractor have any brakes??? They should have been set!

What is the best way to attach an "extension" to the haul line.

Say one is running 125 feet on a 225" capacity spool, and carrying a loose coil of wire rope another 150" long. The hitch to be brought in is on the far side of a wet spot (semi frozen, but unsure if it would hold)

Just put a choker chain between the end sliders?

Is there a better way?

I don't know if there is a better way but that's what I would do. The only problem I see is when you winch in your 125' permanent line your tree is still 150' away at the end of the extension line. You can't reach it with the 125' line. You will need another extension over 25'. But you probably have figured that out already and have a 25 footer ready.

A thinning job I did last year with my winch. I put in a dead end tractor road last July while it was relatively dry. I thinned the area in the picture behind the tractor.

I cut in late December after the ground was frozen.

This is what it looks like now. I took this yesterday morning.

I was going to get some pics. of logs that my three point hitch wont pick up and you have them in your second picture. I bet you miss the snow already, with any luck you might have some Monday.

OK

Of course the actual distances are arbitrary. but the linking mechanism remains.

There is always a length of chain at hand ;-)

Maybe once you winch it closer, your tractor can pull it a bit closer yet, for a better second pull?
