Dump Trailer with b3200?

I've pulled 3 tons of rock on a trailer behind my L3200, and it did fine. Just be careful on hills and use 4x4 when braking is critical.

That's exactly what I want to do. Pull the trailer to the quarry with the one ton and bring back a couple yards of rock. Transfer the trailer to the tractor and dump the rock on a woods road. My L3010 tractor has a geared transmission and weighs about 5000 with the loader and loaded tires. I don't know anything about trailers but it seems like 2.7 ton of rock plus the trailer might be a bit much ?? What I am reading here says it would be OK ??

I am guessing you have never operated a farm tractor with a manure spreader on it and watched the drawbar spring up and down. LOL

I one time hooked my dump trailer to the 3pt and was going down a hill while dumping, it came unhooked and set right down on it's tail gate. I tell you that no one wants to go thru that. Now it is always hooked to the draw bar and never dump going down a hill, or unlevel ground.

I was always afraid of it coming unhooked and coming up in the back of the seat. Mine is good as far as jumong up. Last fall I found that I could load it with wood and raise the dump without it hooked to the tractor. It just sit right there, but sand may be a different story

I am familiar with a B3200 as I put 1200 hours on one before trading it for an L model. I also had a 6x10 dump, but I confess i never pulled the trailer with the tractor. My dump trailer would lift the rear tires on my F150 to a point where I had very little traction. It would spin out if there was a heavy dew on the ground. So that is one aspect to be careful of when dumping a loaded trailer. I would put no more than 2 yards of rock in the trailer. I wound up bending the rear axle because I loaded it too heavy and did not have the trailer sitting level when loaded. I hope your trailer has the adjustable hitch which should be set so that the trailer tows level. At least that is what I think I did not do right when I bent the rear axle. Threw too much weight on the rear. I would only attempt what you want to do on level ground and in 4 wd constantly in low range.

Leejohn makes two good points. When backing up it's possible to bind the drawbar and get yourself into a "jackknife" situation. When this happens, if you keep backing up your inside rear wheel will start lifting and you're on your way to rolling over. Don't ask how I know. As for the 3pt lifting, that can create a whole other set of complications. This happened to me with a load of wood, going uphill, the load shifted aft and the tail of the trailer dug in. The result was a loss of traction that took some futzing with to get the load back in front of the trailer axle. You can limit this tendency by securing the 3pt hitch with a chain. Just make sure you make a good, secure connection between the toplink and the drawbar:

We have rebuilt many three point hitches over the years from when things went wrong! I'm glad you have had success with what you have been doing but normally what will happen is you will take out the hitch hydraulic assembly when it slams up and blows the lift cylinder out of the housing. There has been times we have seen it break out of the body but that is rare but they will bottom out and need the whole assembly replaced. I wish you luck!
