He is not misrereprenting the quantity if sells it my the truck load.

But he is misrepresenting it if he doesnt specify what truck, bed length, heaped how high, stacked or tossed, etc

Compares perfect to a gallon of milk. If a guy is selling a "jug" of milk for $2.49, and a guy across town is also selling a "jug" of milk for $3.79, what is the better deal? How big is the jug?

It is up to the consumer to buy the one they want. Free choice.

How is the seller misrepersenting themselves if they show the person the truck, and tell them the price? Is it up to the seller to measure the bed length in front of the buyer? The buyer can see if it is heaped or not, and length. Myself I would ask when I called, if I wasn't looking at it.

Are there the same amount of apples in a bushel?

Not sure why you are making this so hard.

I always laughed at the Kellogg's Sultana (Raisin) Bran commercials where they claimed that "there are two scoops of raisins/sultanas in a box"...

They never specified the size/volume of the 'scoop'.

But it sure sounds like you're getting a lot!

I think there is a defined size of a scoop with relation to a cup. Wether they really do it to that, is hard to say. You buy a box, and don't like it, don't buy it again. You get a pizza with extra cheese, you expect more cheese then regular, but don't know how much excactly.

Very good point. It didn't pertain to me, but I never questioned how big the scoop was. :D

I can see both sides of this. I agree there needs to be a standard.

I only have my personal life experiences to go by. In my country wood is commonly sold by the truckload. It's also very common to hear people talk about how the truckload they bought off "Jimmy" sure didn't create as big of pile when unloaded as the truckload they bought off "Johnny". Here, you better trust the seller. There are plenty of ads in the local paper for truckloads of wood at various prices. Buyer beware for sure!!! That's why there needs to be a set amount, in relation to wood it's a cord, to compare your purchase to. I believe, more times than not, it's the seller that doesn't want to bother with a standard measurement.

I can see both sides as well. Believe me I am all for less govt control. But when it comes to goods sold in this country, 99% of goods are sold by some form of standard measurement. Be it pounds, tons, cu ft, sq ft, gallons, ounces, etc etc. If the people selling wood would take it upon themselves to sell in the standard measurement, there wouldn't be a need for the law on the books. Prior to all these internet forums over the last 10 years, rick, rack, face cord, etc was an unheard of term in my parts. Wood was sold in 1/2 cord amounts (typical of what a 1/2 ton truck can normally haul), or full cords (what can be stacked on a 1-ton with some side boards/racks).

But having been on both ends, both buying wood.....and selling wood......using a standard measurement benefits all who are involved.

I said this in an earlier post, but think it bears worth repeating. And I still stand by this

IMO, there are 3 types of people that sell wood by methods other than "cords"
1. Too stupid to know what a cord is
2. Too lazy to figure out how many cord your "thrown on load" is equal to. (you would only have to do that ONCE to know how much you haul, all future loads wouldnt need stacked and measured, as long as you load the same way)
3. Intentionally trying to fool people. A heaped load tossed on is less wood than a stacked level full load. But dont look like it to the average person.

Why do people buy corded wood anyway ? Who wants to untie all that lumber just to make a hotdog fire ? What do you do with all that string ? Are you of the same ilk that saves twine in piles from all that baled hay you buy ? Man, I just cut it with my table saw. Best firewood is that warped and split stuff at Home Depot with those blue paint streaks on it. 80% off. That's a bargain ! That treated stuff makes real pretty flames.
