The DAK version of the P226 is junk. Not sure on the P229. These guns could not handle putting s lot of rounds through them. The regular P226 is a wonderful gun.

Never heard that before; what's supposed to be wrong with the P226 DAK that makes you say it's junk? A local gun dealer told me the DAK models are the more popular model back east but the DA/SA is more popular in this area. I don't know whether that's true or not, nor do I know why it is, if it is. My P229 has never failed, jammed, or caused any problem of any kind. But I do clean and oil my guns any time one is fired for any reason. And I guess 100 rounds is the most I run through it in one day.

Thanks gents for the reply's, As most of you know the P229 Legion is suppose to be the best of the best Sigs, it's a bit smaller then the P226 but I believe the rail and slide is a heavier machined piece then the other Sig models but I Don't believe any are junk just that the P229 Legion is suppose to be the cats meow. My favorite carry is my Kimber CDP Pro carry in .45,as the 1911's were what I used shooting for the Marines, but this Legion Sig Sauer has my interest. Check it out here. Legion Series | Sig Sauer

Yep, I still have the P229 DAK (double action Kellerman), 9mm w/night sights. I bought it new in September, 2009. I used to go to the range about once a month and shoot one box of 50 at the same distances we had to qualify. However, I never carried it; always still carry my old S&W Chief .38 spl. when I carry. So the Sig hasn't been shot in a couple of years (April 16, 2014 to be exact). I've got Sig's own holster, a pocket holster, speed loader, 5 magazines, of course the original case and paperwork, 250+ rounds of ammo, etc. and I'd like to sell all of it. A dealer offered me $600 for all of it, but I wouldn't take less than $800.

I don't blame you, I wouldn't take less than $800 either. Bird in spite of owning Glock, Sig and Beretta semi autos and like to keep one handy, like you when I have a gun on me, it's my 5-shot S&W. Since I retired and as I get older and shoot less, I find a bigger gun annoying.

I haven't kept up with guns and was unfamiliar with the Legion Series, very nice. While I have no real need for one, I've drooled over the P220 Carry Elite for a fun gun, but I'll probably never spring for one.

As to Sig quality, all the SEALs with which my son trained preferred the Sigs.

P226 here. Mine says "Made in West Germany". I've had it for 28 years. Had it factory refurbished a couple years ago and had siglite night sights added to it. It had become a safe queen since then, until I took my wife to the range. She loves it. Now it's her range gun, and her bump in the night gun if I'm not around.

Thanks again gents for your feed back relating to the Sig Sauer, sorry, I know this is a tractor forum but what the heck, we all like tractors and some of us do like our guns. I'll keep you posted when I actually take possession of one.

Guns are often a topic of discussion.

I used to have a P229 in 9 mm. I carried it because the mag was interchangeable with the mag carried by the police around here. I was in the prosecutor's office at the time. I also had a Glock 26. Sold them both when I got married as the wife is not a gun person.

Well now she wants to go learn to shoot. I got a carry permit because there is always talk of changing the law to make them harder to get.... so now at least I have one.

If I were to decide to carry again it would be the Glock 26. Ease of operation. I am a lefty and on the Gen 4 the mag release can be reversed. Add a different slide release and it can easily be operated with the left index finger.

I suspect the wife would end up with a revolver for ease of operation. She does not see the need for it, but since she works out in the barn at home alone I would like to put a double barrel 12 ga out there for ease of grab and go if something came up while she was in the barn.

So long story short, I liked the Sig. German engineering is good. But I personally liked the Glock better.

Austrian Tupperware better than good German aluminum? Just kidding I have both a Sig and a Glock and like both. They both work fine, just different. For target shooting I prefer my 1911 or my SV 2011, but they all have their place. A lot of women do prefer a good .38 special revolver. I have one of those too, and many of the hundreds of women I have instructed into shooting handguns have prefered it, but not all.

Yeah, just a personal preference. I love it though when people truly (I realize you were joking) make fun of the Glock for being plastic. So many of the composites they can make now a days are way better than metal that has been around for thousands of years.

There is a simplicity to the 38 special though.... that might be the one that ends up in the nightstand or out in the barn if she does not want the 12 ga out there.

For many of us on this forum 911 is not an option because they are too far away.
