I would say that's not the norm but is possible under perfect soil conditions, there is a reason you don't see farmers pulling offsets but see tandems all the time at least around here.

Those are the magic words.

OK, I have looked at that option but don't I need to turn in the lime and fertilizer? It seems that if i just throw it on these slopes it will just end up in the creek.....
Need to soil test to find out no point in wasting money putting out something you don't need to.

Based on the info that you have given, if I were you, I would be looking at the 9 footers here.

Assuming that you don't want to waste time, I personally would not even consider anything under 2000lbs. But that's just me. ;)

Ditto what Brian stated. An "offset disk" with notched blades frt & rear is what I'd recommend. Notched disk handle grass & weeds better than smooth disk.

Soil test was the first thing I did. I had the Co-Op truck spread pulverized lime on the fields it could access. I bought a pallet of pelletized lime to carry to the sites it could not.

Why is an offset disc more aggressive than an in-line?

I agree with Brian on the offset disc but would choose the 8'4" model with 24" pans. That is about as much as your tractor can handle on sloped ground. A simple 3 point spike tooth harrow and or a cultipacker would help finish these plots off.

You could also use a 7' to 8' rotary tiller too. Good for mixing in amendments and leaves a good seedbed. A tandem disc harrow with large notched blades will work but will take more passes.

There are several ways to get this done.

I agree with Jeff a pull type harrow is going to be a headache trying to turn in a 2-4 acre spot. A 3 point type you can use the brakes to turn in your tracks in the length of the tractor.
I pulled trailer type disk all my farm life and with a 14 foot wide disk, I can turn it right back around and follow the path just disked up. It takes no more room to turn a pull type disk than a 3 PH type. When you have 10 feet or more disk on a 3 PH sticking out behind you, you have to allow for that as part of your turning radius= tractor length + length of disk so 10' of disk and 15'+ on tractor length is 25' or more whereas with a trailer type disk, you have the tractor + not more than half the width of the disk so a tractor of 15' in length +14' disk would only require turning radius of 22' using brake assisted turning.

I would look at a trailer type tandem disk that will pull much easier than an offset type but maybe not cut as deep but you really don't need 10" deep disking for a deer food plot.

Thanks for this. I will go take a look at it. I am kind of feeling this is the most appropriate implement for me. Simple, no hydraulics, small/narrow enough to maneuver logging roads. I understand it may take a few more passes than a more aggressive offset unit but we are only talking a maximum of ten acres combined here.

I see larger tow-type units with equal amounts or rust for less money on CL. is this guy high on this price?
